My old trusty Stinson up in flames

Sounds like everyone is ok, but what a bummer.

Re: My old trusty Stinson up in flames

Not sure who has the right story on this...Airport manager indicated it went down on T/O, another source says "suddenly lost power", etc. The park is to the north of the airport, but winds were 230 at 4.

A takeoff on 35 doesn't make much sense, given 35 is uphill with a slight tailwind component.

An overshoot could be possible if too high with a tailwind component, then not enough power to climb on a go around.

At noon on Tues AWOS was calling 95 deg F which calculates a DA of 5000.

Glad the occupants were okay. What a shame to lose another beautiful bird.

You know, that's one of my big worries that someday I'll ball up my airplane. Yeah, it's just one of many 172's, but they don't make fastbacks with manual flaps anymore. I love this thing.

+1

You've got a great classic, and there's less and less all the time.
