Near Miss With Car

Small plane scared some folks on I35 just north of Gainsville, TX. Anybody know what really happened or who the pilot is? http://patriotaction.net/profiles/blogs/we-were-almost-hit-by-an-airplane

I like the crop duster theory some of the posters on that link posited. "Normal" people often have no idea what they're talking about when it comes to aviation.

20' of the ground, and yet the propeller was coming right at them. Must be a tall car...

Yes. Most of the comments are ignorant and those kind of people are the reason that private pilots have to walk on egg shells around non-pilots sometimes. Probably the same people that would call the police just because someone has a gun on their hip.

As she stated right off the first line, she makes a living as an environmentalist.
Don't need to read any farther than that.

Tom Weiss perished in a mid-air collision October 12, 2014. He was an enthusiastic and beloved contributor here for close to 10 years, and he will be missed greatly.

X2. My impression is that her pendulum swings a little far off to one side or another from "normal" based on the website, the sensationalized tone of her blog and the comments from her followers, but I agree with your observation.

Re: Near Miss With Car

On articles like this I enjoy the comment section the most,

Comment by James P Petersen yesterday I would certainly think that this airplane would have been registered and would have had flight plans at one of the local airports in the area in which he was flying; that is, unless he was flying in and out of a private farm land which had its own runway, and then, perhaps the rules might not be closely followed. I hope they catch the idiot who created this "scary" moment and bans him from future flights. I've seen Crop Dusters in action when one flew across the front of my vehicle while I was driving north on US 95 through South or North Carolina. It would not have collided with me but when it just appears suddenly out of the clear blue, it can appear a lot different than it really is. By the way, there were signs along the highway that "Low Flying Crop Dusters in use for next XXX miles. Be Aware"

They should teach people in driver's training class that if they ever see an airplane approaching them from the front...or the rear...to get out of the way. It probably has an emergency and needs to land on that road.
