Unless I was passed out drunk or dead, Sky King Junior would have never done that with me in the airplane as a passenger. First instinct would have been to shoot the f**ker in the head and dump the body out the door.

Nothing wrong with bootleg IFR, but goddamn you gotta know where the ground is. And from the looks of the computing power in that panel there was absolutely no excuse for not knowing where the rocks were.

That pilot should go right out and buy a bunch of lottery tickets while his lucky streak is red hot! The FAA can and should get to him right after they tear runaway balloon guy a new one.

You got that right. IFR is easy with all those bells and whistles.

Re: Near miss with terrain in IMC

Seems like there's plenty of information/evidence just on this thread for a valid investigation by the FAA and or NTSB.

Mr Bruce might be book smart, but he show's in the video (if Bruce is the PIC or even in the plane) that he lacks common sense and good judgment! Sounds like this guy might be well off, so why on earth would he take such a liability risk like that? Makes no sense at all! Besides trying to look/act cool for his buddy's.

Like some say: Book smart, but common sense stupid!!

In the assortment of flying photo's he has one of the panel with the caption "The latest GPS array will keep us on track!" Hmmm...
I got a new caption. "The latest in video technology may make sure you have a long time to think about the hole you nearly bore in that mountain side before you fly again." [-X

Darn streight I'd throw him in jail for a few days. Just imagine that's your son or daughter sitting in that seat behind the pilot, (strike that,...the "person" operating the planes controls). This act goes way beyond climbing through a layer of fog for a minute etc. without filing. This knucklehead was just chuggin along in a friggin valley IMC "hey, no big deal, I know this area real good!" When you mix stupidity and recklessness with aviation, a plane becomes a loaded weapon.

He must have meant "The latest Granite Probing System array..."

His Beech buddies are all over this as is every pilot forum on earth.

Best comment was that if he had been a few feet lower the lawyers for the grieving folks back home would be sueing Beech, Garmin, his mechanic et al.

Re: Near miss with terrain in IMC

This sounds like a scud running profile that had a fatal outcome. [-X

Re: Near miss with terrain in IMC

Here's a scud running incident involving a Beech 36. With a fatal outcome as well.

And another. This one is just plain stupid! (Sorry)

They are all over this dude in the Beech site. My favorite comment was "This guy just bitch slapped the grim reaper". Also this cartoon says it all.
