I have had an iPad and Foreflight for about a half a year, but still haven't put in much time with the app to know all the functions and how to get the most out of it. I have wanted to test it while airborne, but didn't want to try to master it while flying single-pilot. Today I rode right- seat on a 206 into Merrill, and so brought it along to try it out. Realized right away that there's a whole lot to learn, and that I want to be proficient with it before trying to use it when entering or departing a place like Anchorage. Are there any good tutorials or "getting-started" materials out there that forum members have found helpful?

Also using a Bad Elf gps receiver.

My best advice is to "fly" it in the car while you are a passenger. The more you play with it the more intuitive it gets.

It does take time. I used it a lot while getting clearances flying/teaching ifr in the LA basin. One can either enter route by typing or 'drawing' using the finger. Also the tutorials on their site.

Got the new IPad and used it on a trip to Michigan and back (this week) What a tool, never looked at a paper chart the whole trip. Everything is there that you want. Best I can say is go to Foreflight's web site watch all the tutorial videos and just follow along. Foreflight's app is very user friendly you cant mess it up. I recommend a yoke mount, I'm using a Ram on the passenger side. Used with a Garmin with XM weather this combination is a very rich cockpit resource.

What in particular are you having a problem with?

FF is a great app on the iPad, when I came up from America to my home away from home(Marshall) I used the 696 for weather direct to and music, the FF for everything else, gas prices and all, the winds aloft before you launch, gives you the best altitude to head for before you leave the ground, play with the map, gives you dew point speard, it's great.

Denali pilot - hey don't feel bad. I had to get help to even turn my ipad on. I have the ipad and foreflight all programed to get my J-3 and me to OSH. Will be our first venture together.
