Need Help w/ Pre-Buy
Owning an aircraft has many special considerations like financing, taxes, inspections, registration, and even partnerships. You can post questions on buying and selling procedure. Please post type-specific questions and topics in the
Types forum.
Can anyone in the southwestern Michigan or northern Indiana (South Bend) area recommend a local A&P for a pre-buy inspection of a J3 cub?

Soy, I'd think you might increase the replies by posting this on supercub.org, which most regard as a friendly relative of BCP. Some of the best cub experts in the world post regularly there. Also the J3 site.
Hope this works out well, there need to be more Cubs of all sorts on the Front Range
Thanks. cubscout

Just a friendly word of advice here....be careful about posting a plane's location you are interested in. A few years back I was wanting a prebuy on a Super Cub I had found. I posted on SC.org looking for someone to do a prebuy for me. Welll, a VERY unscrupulous member of the site asked where it was (along with other more innocent posters that were actually trying to help).....me, in my stupidity posted the location of the plane. The guy went up and bought the plane!! I lost out on buying the plane and now have a very 'bad taste' for some people and certain question.
Good luck with the hopefully new purchase.

Understood that's why I'm asking in roundabout ways. I'd still appreciate recommendations if anyone here has any

I would try calling Jim at Jims aviation in Charlotte mich 517-543-6015 . Jim is mostly a Cessna 180/182/185 and L-19 guy.He owns both a C-180 (BEAUTIFUL) and a L-19. But he also does some piper work.. very thorough and detailed...

If you have a local (to you) guy you trust, take him with you. The cost of an airline flight is much less than the potential cost of rectifying something that was missed or omitted. I found that all A&P's aren't created equally, and some aren't worth a damn at all. Then you find a guy whom you trust, who's honest with you, best to drag him along. Also, lay eyes on the machine in person first before committing to buying. Photos don't always tell the whole story.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
I don't have a local to me guy - this is my first plane. I have a remote guy - my brother is a pilot and his A&P is willing to help because he's a friend of family and owns a cub too - but to be fair to him I will be paying his travel expenses and time - and he recommended that I try to find someone independent from the seller to do a pre-buy because it would probably cost me quite a bit - he would have to travel from NC. I'm just putting out feelers - hoping to get lucky.
I know about J3-cub and SuperCub - I was looking for an independent recommendation - without getting into the particulars here. This plane is not on the open market yet - and I'd like to keep it that way - at least until I decide if i want it or not.
Thanks b75matt for the recommendation.
