Negrito Flyin Pictures

We had the annual Negrito flyin this weekend and had a great time. About 26 planes and over 35 folks showed up. It was a little nippy at night (temps dropped below 30), but otherwise, weather was outstanding and all in all, a good event.

One of our members who attended posted these photos and I thought some of you might be interested in seeing them.

Re: Negrito Flyin Pictures

My wife and I were in New Mexico in early September visiting our daughter. Unfortunately, we flew in commercially. Next year we'll try and coordinate our visit with one of your flyins and we'll come in the Maule. It looks like you had a great mix of aircraft types at the flyin and lots of musicians. I fly better than I sing, so I'd just be a happy spectator camper for the entertainment hour. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Did you manage to shoot down any balloons on the way home?

Manassas:

You would sure be welcome!

No ballon bagging. There is a big TFR is over the Rio Grande Valley during Ballon Fiesta and you probably wouldn't want to try a strafing run. Nice thought though!!

I might also add if you go through the photos, there are some shots of the Double Circle Strip, which a number of participants flew to over the weekend. The surrounding vegetation will make it easy to figure out which ones. One nice thing about Negrito is that there are a number of surrounding Forest Service strips nearby.

The picture of the cabin is a historic structure on the Double Circle Strip. AZ pilots and RAF have been working hard to reopen the strip and assist with improvements to the Cabin. Good job Mark and AZ!!!

Ditto SK:

I have always wanted to spend some time around Big Bend National Park. I have had friends who spent a lot of time there and really enjoyed it. I watch the TX flyin posts and hopefully will be able to make it over there some day.

Some good info on New Mexico and strips in the Gila on the nmpilots.org website. Check out the "Search Airport" and "Backcountry" / "Documents" for more info.

I have seen your trip posts, which I enjoyed, and if you wander back NM way stop by anytime. I'm at E98.

Re: Negrito Flyin Pictures

That looks like a good time. Folks are bundled up for the cold, nothing the big bonfire can't fix.
I'd like to make it out next year if I end up getting my own plane.
Thanks for the pics, I couldn't figure out double circle strip though.

RR:

Hope you make it too. Not sure where G-Town is? Gallup? If your in the AZ / NM area, maybe I could arrange a ride if you haven't got a bird next year.

Double Circle photos are the photos that have corral, fencing and cabin showing up.

It was a bit chilly, especially the first night when we still had a little wind. Temp was a little below 30. Night two was much warmer because there was no wind. But right you are, nothing a nice blaze can't cure.

Re: Negrito Flyin Pictures

Hey Larry. You are correct, I'm in Gallup.
We are not that far from the Gila and I'd love to hit those strips and go camping/mountain biking.
There is a small group of tailwheel guys developing here and we hope to go out and do stuff as a group and host some fly-ins around this area.
Cheers

Larry - I posted photos to the New Mexico Pilots Association at www.nmpilots.org. On the left side of the home page, under Photo Albums, click Enter Gallery and open up the NMPA Sponsored Events Album. Then open up the Negrito 2013 Album for more photos.

I flew us (Mike and I) to Negrito in our Murphy Rebel on Saturday morning. In addition to enjoying the camaraderie, we also had fly-outs to Double Circle and to Me-Own.

Beautiful weather after a passing cold front blew through on Friday into Saturday morning.

Larry - thanks for organizing and working so hard to make this such a fun event! And special thanks to that hard-working Thomas for cooking our meals!
