New Bird-172K

Hi everyone,

I've been a long time lurker, but haven't got around to posting much. I have been renting for the last 4 years and finally decided to take the plunge into ownership.

I just picked up a 1970 172k with the 160hp RAM conversion. 12 hrs SMOH done in June 17 with 3000hrs TT airframe. The front seats are pretty rough but the rest of the plane is in good condition. I figure seat upholstery is cheaper than a cam and lifters. :D

Re: New Bird-172K

Congrats! As a fellow 172 owner (mine's a 55 year old P172D--it's birthday was actually yesterday), I applaud your purchase. There are reasons that there are more 172s than any other airplane, and more reasons that the mark's safety record is stellar. It's a darned good airplane. And, contrary to some folks' opinions, it'll take you just about anywhere most folks really need to go, just slowly. And slowly is OK--the only time I regret mine's speed is my annual trip to OSH.

I have a share in a 172K. 1969. Has a float kit and a lot of hail damage. Low time airframe, and very low time engine. Fun, inexpensive flying. It's so light on the controls after getting out of the 185, that it's a real joy. Congratulations. I hope yours is every bit as much fun, and that you enjoy it more often than I do mine.

My wife and I took our first cross country in her today up to Madeline Island in the Apostle Islands on Lake Superior.

Pretty neat spot to go of you're around northern Mn or Wi.

Wow, that is a nice looking 172! I like the classic paint scheme. 172's are great honest airplanes. You can go on a lot of adventures with that airplane. Have fun and post pictures of your trips and airplane.

Re: New Bird-172K

I logged 14 hours one day shuttling a buddy's family out to the Oregon coast in a 172K. Always thought it was a great little airplane. Hope it takes you on some fantastic adventures!

Congratulations.

The 172 is the best selling small plane in history for a reason!

They drive great! I LOVE the flaps in particular.

You can get 3,000 hours on the H2AD engine if you use Aeroshell 100 plus the additive for the valves and fly it every week.

This one has the E2D with the 160hp Ram conversion. The plan is to exercise it regularly!
