New Book on Idaho Strips Recently Published

A good friend just sent me this info. I went ahead and just ordered a copy from Amazon for $37.

After nearly three years of writing Bound for the Backcountry: A History of Idaho’s Remote Airstrips it is at last published! The final product is a 560-page hardbound 8.5 X 11 coffee table size book featuring more than 1,000 black and white photographs (historic and current) and over ten maps.

Should be a great book! Thanks for posting.

As for the plane, I'm not sure but there appears to be a picture of one that Mike took on his other post about his two weeks in the back country last year (second pic in the second group he posted).

Nice job sleuthing that out, Kevin!

This is from last summer, from a similar angle at Shearer:

As to the back page, I'm going to guess it's departing to the West on the shorter runway at Moose Creek.

Here's a view to the west at Moose Creek take from the east end of the short runway

My guess is Moose Creek, taking off on the long runway and turning right to follow the short runway out?

Maybe, the plane looks pretty low if it is, 01/19 is 4100ft long.

Re: New Book on Idaho Strips Recently Published

The back cover is "Campbell's Ferry" in 1974 with a Johnson's Flying Service 206 departing . That comes from an email from the author as I was curious. The cover is "Shearer" in the 1930's he says.

I look forward to getting my copy. Looks like a cool book.

It just arrived today, and yes it is a great book from what I've seen of it so far with a quick scan. It even has photos of DC-3's at Moose Creek plus lots of other great photos and history. =D> =D> =D>

Re: New Book on Idaho Strips Recently Published

Just picked mine up at the post office today. At first glance it looked like a textbook but I probably spent the better part of the evening reading it. Lots of great history, cool photos and some nifty DC-3s.
