Re: New SPOT coming soon...

Thanks for the update. I have had great results with my spot (have not used it in an emergency) and like the smaller size and the extra message button. For those not around a computer, it will be nice to send a "Im leaving" message and then they know to expect an "ok" message a certain amount of time later.

Nice. Just wish they had thought of an external antenna option for us aviation types.

They were also considering one with a keyboard so you could send whatever message you wanted, guess that didn't pan out.

Re: New SPOT coming soon...

Regarding monitering SPOT. When my son Brent ( Highroad ) reachs his desination my cell phone and e-mail alert me that he is OK. He SPOT ed that he was OK at Minum this morning. Brent has said that at times this forum moniters the progress of his flights. Google map on the SPOT e-mail show me his destination but I cannot figure out how to find the flight path. Since he will be flying "backcountry" for the next week would somebody please share with me how to moniter the fight path sent out every 10 minutes by SPOT? Thanks Herman Pahls Oregon 541 404 6464

Re: New SPOT coming soon...

I'm currently tracking the progress of my neighbor that is up at Smiley Creek, with a side trip to JC yesterday. In order for me to see his track, he had to send me a "shared link" to allow me access. These links expire and don't work indefinately.

We would like to get one for my parents for Christmas to track them while they are out running around the mountains on their ATVs. We thought it would be nice in case something happens, or if we can't reach them, to see where they are. Of course they would have to have it on, but the fact that these links expire is a problem. Maybe there is a way around it, like getting their login info or something like that.

Anyway, short of having access to his account, I believe that he'd have to email you the link before he leaves. I'm still getting familiar with Spot, so if this isn't how it works, I'm sure someone will post better info. This is just my experience with it.

Herman,

Click on Brent's "My Spot Page" on the bottom of his post above.....that will take you directly to the tracking page, which you can bookmark. You can also click on Dad's Page (bottom of my post) and check out the progress of some friends of ours that we let borrow our Spot for a trip to Alaska.

The link doesn't expire but the data only stays on the web page for a week. I have my link bookmarked and send it out to relevant parties when I want to.
