New to BCP, New Stinson Restoration underway

Wanted to take the time to introduce myself. I purchased a Stinson 108-1 a few months ago, and since then have been fighting mechanical gremlins trying to get it ferried back to Cincinnati.

Already have a bunch of parts I will be installing, but my primary idea is to keep this aircraft as light as possible, while still being mission oriented.

New 850 x 6 tires, Scott 3200 TW, Cleveland Brake Conv, Shoulder Harnesses are just the beginning. I am planning on keeping it a VFR bird, going with some Becker Lightweight radio and transponder combo after selling the Narco units I have now. I also will be using my iPad with Garmin Pilot and a GDL 39 3D to really enhance the usability of the aircraft for finding remote fields.

My goal is to have a nice little camper aircraft to fly around some small strips in the midwest. I fly too often for someone else, so this would be a way to get back to something simpler. Currently, I spend most of my time flying a Hawker 400XP but I also fly a Cessna 421, Citation II, and King Air C90s. This will be the first aircraft I have owned myself for purely personal fun.

Here is the plane as it sits.

I have changed the carb, new spark plugs, new mags and wires. I am still unable to make full power and at high RPM the engine is still spitting and hesitating. I think It may be a cylinder or valve now. Although all the other changes did help significantly how well the engine ran and the new carb has is AD free. Fortunately I have access to plenty of Franklin parts locally so that should help. Also have a good amount of experience restoring and painting so this should be a fun little machine once it gets finished.

Good to see a -1 getting some attention! Everyone seems to think they need a -3.... I like the -1 and -2. I've got a few parts around if you get in a bind.

Is it the 150hp or the 165hp?

I think Stinsons are great airplanes and quite stunning when finished in Stinson Maroon.

If I could find one restored by the late Butch Walsh I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Welcome from another -1 owner here. Bought mine as a flyer a bit over 1.5 years ago. I used it to get my PPL after 23 hours in a 172 a few years back. Mine is metalized and came with the Cleveland brakes and 3200 TW. Luckily, I haven't had any real issues with it, but have been adding things to "make it mine", the last being a UBG-16 engine monitor and the next being shoulder harnesses from Wag-Aero. It also came with another, bigger motor on a pallet that needs to be overhauled and the necessary ancilliaries installed in the plane in preparation for the future heart transplant :)

Welcome, Just a personal preference but I like the small tail rigs better than the -3s. Having rebuilt mine from the ground up if you run into questions just ask, If I don't know the answer I can make one up pretty fast.
