NFR: Mule kills cougar

Stumbled across this today...apparently mules are badasses. Look at the those dogs in the last photo. They are watching in awe.

These pics came from a guy in Arizona. Yes, the mule killed the mountain lion. The lion had been stalking them for the better part of the morning, on the way out to a hunt. They were pretty sure it was after one of the dogs. The cat ambushed them, and the mule pictured tossed its rider and went into attack (defense) mode, the horses scattered and shots were fired but no one was sure if they hit the cat or not. Unfortunately, it wasn't until it was almost over that one of the guys started snapping pics. The mule finally stomped the cougar to death after biting and throwing it around like a rag doll. The dogs wouldn't even come close until the mule settled down.

The cat was still alive here and trying to fight back

The mule stomped the cat then pinned it to the ground and bit the heck out of the dead cat several more times.

Image
The cat was pretty much dead by now then mule picked up the cat again whipped it into the air again then stomped the dead cat again for good measure!

Yeah. I saw that a couple of years ago. I'd like to get a watch mule like that.

Think about these pics the next time you try to spur your mount down the trail and it's ears go back.....

Mules are pretty tough. We had some neigbors that let their dogs out all the time and the three of them would chase cattle. The guy that owns the ranch accross the street borrowd a mule from a friend. The dogs showed up and started after the mule and it promply killed two of them. The other limped home. Problem solved.

I've been hunting a couple of times with Mules and there is no comparison to horses. I had never had any experience prior to my first hunt but I looked forward to it in later hunts. We were using my friends draft mules that were 17+ hands high which was huge but they were great on the trail and seemed pretty smart.
Won't fit in the Maule though...

Worst day of my life was when Dad bought 4 mules to add to the packstring of horses that we'd been using for years... I didn't like them, and they sure didn't like me either... I could walk out the door and all their ears would go flat! They were great as far as work, and smart as all get out....too smart... and they were Hell on snakes, dogs and cats!!! They're quite the animal.. I've packed them, driven them and even ridden them, but I'll stick to horses.... we seem to get along better.

God put me here to accomplish a certain amount of things...right now I'm so far behind, I'll never die!!

I guess this popped up over on snopes.com as an innaccurate description of the photos...

According to Steve Richards, who wrote a couple of articles about them for Western Mule Magazine, these pictures date from 2002 or 2003 and show Berry, a now 11-year-old mule, owned by a 25-year-old hunter named Jody Anglin. The incident depicted took place in southwestern New Mexico, and came about as Berry the mule grew more aggressive over time in his pursuit of mountain lions with Jody:

When Jody first got the mule and after Jody shot the first lion out, Berry casually came over to the lion and just nuzzled the lion and casually nibbled it. With each lion Berry just got more aggressive. Jody said it didn't take more than two lions and Berry got really aggressive to the lion and couldn't wait to get the cat.

However, the text description accompanying these photographs is somewhat inaccurate, as Berry didn't actually kill the mountain lion, the mule picked it up and tossed it around only after it was already dead.

The lion was dead before the mule Berry took and shook the lion. A lion is a powerful and lethal predator and can easily kill a mule, however a mule can be quite an adversary.

A big cat is very powerfule and verty smart. They would stay clear of a mule and be more at home killing a fawn or a mt biker.

I have allot more respect for Mules than I do for cougars....there's two kinds of Mules...good ones and and not so good ones....don't waste your time on the latter, cause you won't change them....Had two called Bert & Ernie and those two mules were just plain good, ride em, drive em or pack em...they did it all and where a hoot (they had their moments too)...

Had a cougar take my 6-month old Brit pup 4-yards from our back door one evening just as we let her out to go pea....cat packed the pup some 35-yards and went thru an electric fench that we have to keep the deer out of the yard and garden...cat got zapped and dropped the pup...the next day in the snow you could see the whole story and how it played out...after some stitches she recovered....She's two now and we just ended the chukar season a couple of days ago with a great hunt...

I enjoyed seeing what that mule did to that cat....

That cat was lucky it didn't run into my wife that night, she made that electric "fench" look pretty docile...

We had a long time cowboy and packer killed here this fall by a mule. Went to shoe the mule and took a rear hoof to the side of the head.

No contest.
