Nice short field landing for a C208, almost.

A typical afternoon in Lodi. No injuries. Excellent pilot, after an engine out.

Good summary with aerial of accident site. The Canvan hit a Toyota Pickup (minor impact) crossing the road before going into the vineyard.

Central Valley is the world capital for grapes and raisins. We are filthy in vineyards. Smaller airplanes that land in vineyards have low survival outcomes.

The pilot did a great job to slow the C 208 before entering the vineyard.

Fresno:
"Smaller airplanes that land in vineyards have low survival outcomes."

My first memory of a small light plane, up close, came on a hot day after riding my bike home with an old single speed, fat tired bike, over a hot tar road out of Kingsburg, Ca. Home was a short distance west from the cemetery and just over the Centerville/Kingsburg ditch. I was on the front screened porch listening to some afternoon radio kids dramas before chores when up flew a line of dust. Out of the dust came a bright yellow flash that distracted me from the radio adventures. The yellow thing stopped just short of the irrigation ditch diagonally across the road. I walked over and to the amazement of a six year old, there sat the first J3 I ever saw. The fellow came to visit the sheriff who lived at the other end of the dirt row which ran between to Malaga Wine grape vineyards. Too shy and scared to get real close.

Hey - 8GCBC - if you tell me your throttle story I'll tell you why I stayed away from the sheriff.

It is better to be late in this world, than early in the next.

He did a good job of getting it down. Unfortunate that there happened to be a truck at wrong place at the right time.

Hopefully when they dig into the maintenance records for that plane they don't find something that screams lack of. Just sayin' . Wouldn't be the first time that has been an issue in Lodi

I see it's a -42 Blackhawk caravan. It will be interesting to find out what went wrong. It doesn't look like the prop was feathered? I don't think he would have wanted it any faster. I thought the movie was speed up when he made that perfect lading in the field. He must have been doing about 150kts or more he was haulin A. Also don't see any flaps?
Hope if I ever have a full people load and my motor quits everyone can walk away and still give me a high five.

I heard that the fitting or line that failed was just replaced.

When I heard this on the news over the radio shortly after it happened, the reporter said that a tiny Cessna with 16 people on board had crashed !

Well, tiny compared to a 777, I guess.

Excellent job by the pilot, considering the lack of injuries. And excellent job by the TV news crew--something we rarely see about aviation accidents/incidents.
