Nor-Cal Camping Suggestions?
Not necessarily information about airstrips or airports, but more general info about a greater area or a route of flight.
aktahoe1 - Gold Beach is great! Go there more than really any other spot. Walk about 1/4 mile to the PortHole (great fish and chips).

how did the camping look at Chester. Is there a place for campfires and bbqing or are you just camping in the dirt? I am going camping with the kids and am looking for a new place to camp. We normally hit Columbia or Georgetown.

Buzz - have you been to Gravelly? Nice camp grounds and pretty view down by the lake.

Trinity is what I would call ..low to average now...late spring, big winter this year. Shasta is at capacity. Need to get back up to Gold Beach once the Steelhead start running for certain!
I dont know why people miss it, but the campground next to the glider port here in Truckee is pretty cool and is always empty. Good camp ground, great fishing very close in Martis lake, bike to the truckee river or walk to town for a $5 cab ride...well lets call it $10 to be safe. Truckee also has a handfull of courtesy bikes as well. Almanor is great!
You could always go camping at Black Rock in a week or so....lots of folks looking for someone to take them on the Mile high club ride....With the current condition of the desert, someone should get a tow truck and charge them flying burners big bucks to get there planes out. I have a feeling this year could end up an airplane graveyard out there.....Its in really bad shape! Lots of mud under a crust thats 4-6 inches thick.

If it looks smooth, it might be. If it looks rough, it is...www.bigtirepilot.com ...www.alaskaheliski.com
Is the truckee campground part of the airport or part of the martis creek area campground next to it? Do they have fire pits and grills and is it normally full? I'd be interested in it, just sounds like you would have to lug your stuff a ways from the airplane?
