Norcal Winds

I got up early this morning to go and fly and found this when I checked the weather.

KSUU 281455Z AUTO 36032G42KT 350V050 10SM CLR 12/M06 A2991 RMK AO2 PK WND 34042/1447

I'm in Fairfield and have seen a gust all the way to 47kts. Pretty unusual for this time of year to get wind like this. It was not forecasted either.

Guess I'm going to have to do honey do's all day now...dang the weather. #-o

Re: Norcal Winds

AvidFlyer,

Think I'll do some work around the house and hangar today as well. Weather is improving.
I'll be flying over to your neck of the woods tomorrow (Nut Tree airport) to visit the grandkids in the Mooney.

I've been based out of both Nut Tree and Napa before fleeing CA some 6 years ago.
Where do you fly out of?

Re: Norcal Winds

Bumper I am hangared at Rio Vista. Nut Tree is closer but their hangars are triple what I'm paying now. There are too many Ritzy jerks with more money than brains out there too. Rio Vista is much more relaxed and the people out there are friendly and down to earth. You going to have any spare time tomorrow??

Re: Norcal Winds

Those folks in Fairfield and Sacramento area are delusional in thinking they are in Northern California. They are actually in the middle of the state. Here in Nor Cal the weather could not be better. Oh and this is the best part of the state (7 traffic light in the county) but Alas, we are unfortunately still in Kalifornia.

Think I will fly to Montague then do some practicing on the new strip.

Re: Norcal Winds

The NWS-Sacramento had the wind advisory for today up middle of the day yesterday; but they didn't forecast them to get this high. This is the second day in a row the weather guessers missed. Was out on an instrument training flight yesterday afternoon and while they were predicting scattered showers, some parts of the county were getting hailed on. The cell was visible in the distance, good one to stay way clear of. Usually NWS is pretty conservative. If there is a chance of something, they usually make sure they get it in the forecast.

Delusional? Did you pass geography in high school? :D Northern is "the upper half". If the people north of Sacramento had any brains in their heads they would be in the state of Jefferson, not California.

You are in the middle third. Some folks in Fresno think they are in Nor Cal. Being just south of the Oregon border puts us in the state of Jefferson. http://www.jeffersonstate.com/ Better if Mendocino county was LEFT out. Notice that LEFT was capitalized.

Re: Norcal Winds

We got pummeled by that storm yesterday. I got really lucky because I towed my airplane back out the airport after my engine swap. I had it in the hangar for about 20 minutes when we got poured on. I had the cowling off my plane and when the wings are folded the rear turtle deck is off exposing the whole back half of my fuse. I would have had a mess with the rainwater.

I gotcha beat, thought about it and realized we have but 5 traffic lights in my county. Just about right, but we could use a few more left-turn lanes. Unfortunately we're getting two "round-abouts" instead. Why paint a few inexpensive lines when you have the oportunity to disrupt traffic & spend some real money to boot? BAH!

Roundabouts. Just another sign of a crumbling culture.

Re: Norcal Winds

The Jefferson state movement has been around since long before I grew up within its borders.....To my original point: Either the folks up there (a) think it aint that bad (b) like to complain about it and not do anything, or (c)just aren't smart or resourceful enough to make it happen. I don't live there anymore but still would like it to succeed, just so I can have a place to retire!

I never considered the "thirds" rule - How could have I forgotten about Central Dakota and Central Carolina?

Technically, it is 208 nm to the OR border from KSMF, and 430 nm to Brown field in San Diego. That puts us in the northern third of the state by your argument. Sorry, but you are stuck with us! Now pay up!

By your own admission, you are in the extreme south end of the northern third. Love it when somebody traps themselves with their own words. :D :D

Those are to tell the KAL freighter crews which taxiway to take off from. The rest of us ignore them.

Weather from Boise to LAX looked awesome all the way down today!! Well, from FL380 on the airline. Was a little bumpy coming over the Sierras, though. Lots of snow in northern NV and Sierras.
