If my plan works, I will be heading north the first week in June. Will cross into Canada in the Okanagon valley and probably travel the highway.
Maybe we can meet up :D

Well, no pirep from me...my 170 experienced minor damage the other day and so will require work, back home on a commercial ticket.

Ah, the joys of aircraft ownership. Sigh.

Hmm...well, short field, partial loss of engine power (carb ice? fouled plug? exhaust problem?), aborted takeoff, wire cattle fence at the end.

But hey, I missed the 1) barrow pit 2) big trees 3) gravesite :shock: 4) ditch 5) passing Jeep Cherokee beyond the fence. Maybe more luck than skill, but it WAS the first time I've run a slalom course in a plane.

Nothing an insurance adjuster can't fix :? And I wanted a new front cowl and elevator anyway :roll:

Well, a note from the North. The trip was uneventful albeit a little on the long side. The weather was beautiful and no event other than a little problem with honesty at the border. A little background may be in order here;
I have always carried a little folding O/U .22/.410 survival gun in my bag. As a last minute decision, I thought to call CANPASS to verify the legality of same. The gal I got on the phone requested a lot of measurements despite the fact that I stressed that it was a single shot. Did not matter. I realized what was coming when she asked me (after putting me on hold frequently) if it was an AK-47. folding stock and all! The upshot was that the gal on the phone decided that due to the folded length being less than 26" (why?) it was a restricted weapon. Reluctantly, we left it and the ammo behind, after all, I'm to be a guest of Canada.
When we arrived in Abbottsford to clear customs about 4 pm, we were told to remain inside the aircraft until the customs officer arrived. Did I mention it was the hottest day of the year? It took almost an hour for him to show up. Without even a hello, sorry I'm late, I was asked "where's the gun". I dutifully explained that I left it out of the country and we were unarmed. After showing some of the bags to him, he lightend up a bunch and we talked at length. Come to find out, it would not have been a restricted weapon and he would have approved it. We were dealing with inexperience and not a working knowledge of firearms.
The rest of the trip was great. The leg from Watson Lake to Whitehorse was never more than 5 miles with rain and some light snow showers. The fuel at Whitehorse was expensive (let's see, what are our options?!) Whitehorse to Northway is the most beautiful of the trip. I was in awe the whole way. We did it at about 6 am.
Our route was APEX Airpark - Abbotsford - Williams Lake (overnight) - Prince George - Fort Nelson - Fort St. John (did not stop) - Watson Lake - Whitehorse (overnight) - Northway - Tok - Gulkana - Big Lake.

When I get a little time and get my computer set up, I will post some pictures and a lot more detail.
One note, I would have taken the Trench but opted for the Ft. St. John route due to a little low. Glad I diid as going into Watson Lake that little low manifested itself into a pretty good system. Lots of rain and very low vis. We caught the tail end of it but from what I understand at the Watson Lake FSS (great guy, worthwhile visiting with) This is pretty common and there are no places to hide.

The weather here has been terrific and I have been out flying a little bit. I flew out to the cabin last evening and will be going King fishing on the Deshka River Saturday :)

It's good to hear you had a nice trip Kurt. Sure would like to do that one of these days.

I think it's time to change your location in your profile.
