Northeast/New England Airport Destinations?

Any fun and interesting destinations in the Northeast part of the states?

Any airports with great burgers or food in the Northeast?

Just looking for fun airports to fly to that are within a 2 hour flight of Orange County, NY.

Thanks!

Right near Orange // MGJ, there's Kobelt which has Nu-Cavu restaurant, Resnick AP has Gaby's (short walk), Sullivan County Intl has The Bake House in the terminal and various nearby Bethel Woods // Woodstock stuff. I also like KEEN where The Flight Deck has great food and an inviting terrace with runway and mountain views.

You can visit my strip, Circle W airport (PA72) in East Berlin PA. I have a couple of beater airport cars here for people to use. The Gettysburg Battlefield and York Harley Davidson Plant are both a 20 minute drive from my place. I plan to use my guest house for pilots who want to see this area. The nightly rent will be very affordable. It will be an inexpensive pilot and family get a way.

Sounds good! My friends plane is actually based at Kobelt and are everyday regulars of the Nu-Cavu. I've spent some time there myself back in the late 90's, early 2000's. Can't wait to get reacquainted with them up there!

I'll see if they are interested in the other destinations. Thanks.

Re: Northeast Airport Destinations?

Flying W in Medford, NJ (N14) good breafast, Sky Manor in Pittstown, NJ (N40) great food and can land on grass parallel to paved runway, Sky Acres in Millbrook, NY sloped runway good chow or send me a pm and meet up at Warwick, NY (N72) for a flight of two $100 hamburger mission or a Chauffered ride into town. If your looking for a scenic flight the owner of Stuart and Johns Sugarhouse in Westmoreland, NH welcomes pilots, although landing at own risk in his hayfield across the street from the restaurant.

Stop by NH07 and we can go out to lunch, but we don't plow in the winter

Thanks for the invite! The company I'll be working for is based in NH (Factory Connection). But the race team I'll be working for is based in Corona, CA. I'll probably only be up in your neck of the woods during the summer months so when I get up there, I'll contact you.

OXC in CT has 121 which is one of the nicer airport restaurants around. Just to the northeast of OXC is N41 a nice grass strip that is a lot quieter and lots of fun. I’m hoping to plan a fly-in there next year with camping and short flight seeing trips around the area to different grass strips, attractions and restaurants.

Does anyone know if there has been any update on the status of the now closed "RED PINE" in northern Me.
I have been there many times in the years past but it has been closed for several years now but the RAF was trying to get it opened again but have not heard anything lately.

Re: Northeast/New England Airport Destinations?

Looks like I am a little late to the party - story of my life. You can always come up our way. North Creek, NY 0NY0 We are about 1 1/2 hr flight from Orange County. We don't plow in the winter, so it takes some time for the strip to dry out, usually we are good to go in April sometime.Would be happy to give you a ride around and grab a bite to eat. I also own a rafting Co. and you would be welcome to join us on a trip if you like. Plum Island, MA 2B2 is a nice little strip with a lobster shack about 1/2 mile away, Keene, NH KEEN, used to do a cook out the third Saturday in the month I think and last I knew there was a restaurant within walking distance too. Lake Placid, KLKP is nice as well. Nothing at the airport, but they have a free shuttle that will take you into town and back. Basin Harbor B06 on Lake Champlain in VT is great as well. Nice restaurant right on the strip.

Well I'm very late, and others have covered most of the ones I know, but figured I'd drop this link here.

Hampton, NH. Half a mile or so walk north to a Lobster place on right side of the road. Al's Seafood. Walk in, order, take a seat at a table and they bring it out, nothing fancy but good food. Lobster, fish and such. I ate there a lot when I lived there and based my Husky at Hampton. Worth the trip.

Bob lobster. Land at plum island and it’s a short walk east

Don’t know why it’s not letting me post a pic anymore.

Provincetown, MA on the tip of Cape Cod. The airport runs a shuttle into town (or cabs are dirt cheap), and there's tons of local lobster shacks in town. Lots of other good food and shops too, worth the trip every time!

Re: Northeast/New England Airport Destinations?

There's a series of mystery / crime novels by a writer named Phillip Craig, all set on Marthas Vineyard.

According to those novels, there's at least one airstrip on the Vineyard.
Is that a good place to fly in to?
From what I've heard, it sounds like Cape Cod and MV are both mobbed with tourists in the summertime.

Katama is a grass strip on the ocean, pretty sure they have a restaurant there too.

It's hard to beat Block Island (BID) for a day trip if your in the area. Good restaurants, night life, and lots beautiful open land and beaches. I leave a Jeep at the airport. PM me if your in the area.
