Sent today. Think of it, if the FAA didn't have all those onerous medicals to deal with for us private pilots, would they(the FAA) go out of business?

You can view who is a co-sponsor of HR 3708 here.

I'm extremely curious just how something goes from being a House or Senate bill to being in the FARs. If this is passed as law, FAA rulemakers still have to draft it. The most recent news blurb is, I think, them acknowledging that they may have to do that. I think it's foolish to think that overnight the 3rd class medical requirement will be nullified. I think a new ruleset is going to be added that still has plenty of restrictions, but maybe incrementally more favorable than current.

You had previously contacted me in support of H.R. 3708, the General Aviation Pilot Protection Act of 2013. I wanted to follow up with you and let you know that I have signed on as a cosponsor of this legislation.

As you know, Representative Todd Rokita (R-IN) introduced H.R. 3708 on December 11, 2013, to expand the FAA’s Sport Pilot rule to many other types of small, light aircraft. It would exempt pilots of small aircraft from having to obtain a third class medical certificate. Instead, they would undergo the standard biennial flight review of their physical and cognitive condition.

After hearing from a number of individual aviators in Idaho, I agreed to sign on as a cosponsor of the bill and look forward to supporting it should it come before me on the floor of the House of Representatives.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to previously contact me about this issue. As your representative in Congress, it is important to me to know your thoughts and opinions about issues affecting our nation today. I also encourage you to visit my website, www.simpson.house.gov, to sign up for my e-newsletter and to read more about my views on a variety of issues.

Sincerely,
Mike Simpson
Member of Congress"
