Off-Airport Cessna 150's

This is a great video. Great scenery and some pretty impressive short/softfield takeoffs...haha. I enjoyed it partly because, I, like most people, got my PPL in a 152, and it will always occupy a special place in my heart. :) I suggest clicking the link to watch the HD version (click the Youtube HD button if it's not a larger format.)

Re: Off-Airport Cessna 150's

When I first got to AK in 1970 I used to rent a C150 and go duck hunting across the inlet. Land on a 2 track road built up on the mud flats. They found out what I was doing and would not rent to me anymore  Had a friend that owned a C150 and we would moose hunt with it. Land on frozen lakes with no snow. You could land and shoot in those days. Took 4 trips to haul the moose out. 8)

Cool vid. Wondering why they didn't try to minimize drag by lifting the weight off the wheels and into the wings first before climbing out?

Re: Off-Airport Cessna 150's

Alot of the shots in the first video were shot around the Knik Glacier, and last Spring's Mayday flyin at Valdez, Alaska. I know because lots of the scenery is familiar and the T-6 belongs to a good friend of mine. I think the shot of the t-6 was shot on the beach on or near Hinchenbrook Island during the flyin. Fun video though.....especially like the audio

Is that a Sparrowhawk? Seems like a pretty strong climbout for a stock 150.

Re: Off-Airport Cessna 150's

Unfortunately, I only have dial-up internet access here in my cave- so dowloading video is not possible. But as I fly a C150/150 taildragger, I would like to know more about this "condor 150". Never heard of it before, and googling didn't come up with anything.

That quite the little stol bird. Does a nice job for sure.

BTW, there is a 150 tw conversion for sale up here in Anchorage at Merrill.....don't know what is in it or how much, but it's been for sale all summer.

Re: Off-Airport Cessna 150's

Condor 150- only 11 built here before the owner of the stc sold it to some people from colorado, never heard anything after that.
stol kit on the wings, beefed fusalage with a caster wheel under the tail on the nose dragger model
0360 engine, went like crazy, in and out short, big engine used up the useful, but before it left here I did the testing for a gross weight increase.
fun plane

Re: Off-Airport Cessna 150's

Condor sounds weird looking... I've seen those fore-and-aft wheels on ultralights before, ugh. The "texas" engine conversion for the C150 allows either an O-320 or an O-360. Mine has the 320, the 360 sounds like too much of a good thing.
A 150/150 taildragger with a borer prop & a leading edge cuff cuff would be pretty awesome for STOL op's. Mine has a virgin wing and a 74-56 Sensenich prop, not as stol as it could be but gets in and out reasonably short plus clips along at 125 all day long. I'm satisfied.

Re: Off-Airport Cessna 150's

Don:
Most of the big parts are finished, and most of the expensive parts are already here in the shop. But the economy has slowed down the part where you have to buy all the little things to get to go fly. A kit takes a long time but design one yourself and see how much time it takes. Seems like forever when you don't have one to fly while you work.
