Might be cheaper just to buy a new one. At Sears or Best Buy you can probably do 0% interest same as cash payments for 6-12 months. Just make sure you pay it off by the end of the 0% interest term.

Beware of The Maytag repair man!

A woman was trying to do her laundry one day, when her washing machine suddenly broke down. Distraught, she called her husband at the office and said, "Honey, can you please come home and fix the washing machine? It doesn't work." The angry husband replied, "Who do you think I am, the freakin’ Maytag Repairman?" and hung up. The woman decided to go to the Laundromat to complete her washing. She got in the car, but when she turned the key in the ignition, it wouldn't start. She again called her husband at work and said, "Honey, I tried to go to the Laundromat with the car, but it wouldn't start. Can you come home and take a look at it?" Again, the angry husband snaps, "Who do you think I am the freakin’ Mr. Goodwrench?" and hung up. She decided that the best thing to do is call the Maytag Repair man. He promptly arrived and, of course, fixed the washing machine. She then asked him if he knew anything about fixing cars. He replied that he knows a little. He went outside to take a look under the hood. Ten minutes later, he returned and said, "Your car is running fine now. The only thing wrong was your fuel filter was a little dirty." The lady said, "Wow, you're a pretty handy guy! How much will this all cost?" The Maytag guy says, "I’ll tell ya what, lady. You can bake me a cake or have sex with me; your choice." Later that evening, the husband returned home from work. The lady explained to her husband that the Maytag man fixed the washing machine and the car. The husband asked how much all of this will cost. She replied that he wanted me to bake a cake for him or have sex. The husband then said "Well, what kind of cake did you bake for him?" The lady said, "Who do you think I am, freakin’ Betty Crocker?"

Home Depot. Washing machine makes a great birthday, mothers day, or anniversary present.

We ended up remodeling the laundry room when ours broke, you know, cuz we couldn't put new machines in the old dungy room. That was an expensive machine to replace! I'd recommend a front loader if you buy one...

Well, I think I found the part that needs repaired on the whirlpool site. Little bugger cost $42, but it's cheaper than a remolded basement as angryperppers stated. I know the second I put something new down there, everything else will instantly look very outdated. Have you seen the cost of new washers and dryers (can't buy one without the other either), they have bluetooth, wifi, more computer electronics than my car. Lets just hope this part does the trick, I need to buy raffle tickets.

Anyone have a spare grenade laying around?

I've never lost so much skin off my knuckles as when I replaced a drum carrier roller in an old dryer. It's almost like it's part of the manufacturer's strategy to leave as many sheet metal screws and stamped parts exposed to remove maximum flesh.
