Ominous User Fees

Ladies and Gentlemen and everyone else flying, it may be time for all to act on this one. It could make a difference to future flying.
Without question it should be a consideration to all of us so checkout www.nbaa.org/userfees where the contact is made easy.

To easy! Thanks for the link. I have worked in Europe for the last eight summers and trust me, there is no general aviation to speak of compared to what we have. It is extremely expensive. I would fly from the northern Greek city of Ioannina to the island of Korfu for fire standby on a regular basis during the fire season. On one occasion I had the opportunity to fly there with a friend in his Cherokee to go play tourist. The flight (which is only about 20 minutes long) took over one and a half hours to fill out the forms, flight plan, and cost us about 250 Euro in user fees. When we landed Olympic was there waiting to charge us 60 Euro more, which quite frankly bought us a bus ride from the tiedown area to the terminal.

We need to support AOPA, EAA, NBAA and anyone else who will help keep our system safe and affordable for all of us. Write those letters!!

Wow, if that goes through a bunch of us fun fliers are either going to have to fly illegally or fade away.

Anyone who wishes to see general aviation as we know it survive should speak up on this issue. This is not one of those things that we can read about and then go fly thinking that it will all turn out alright in the end. This one is going to be decided against us if we do not speak up.

Our agency has been doing all we can to fight this thing tooth and nail. We have done radio interviews, written everyone who has any sort of vote, and published numerous articles in various magazines to wake up the general aviation community to this ordeal. We will have another article in our next magazine with more info on the user fees as well as a letter that the readers can plagiarize and send to their representatives.

Speak up fellows, or this one will bite us hard.

Here is a list of names and contact information for the members of the aviation congressional committees. Do not be afraid to call these people and voice your concerns. They are supposed to represent us so make sure they are representing our opinions.

User fees

In addition to the user fees, the FAA is very quietly proposing to terminate the contracts for DUATS presently held by two companies ( CSC DUATS and DTC DUAT) and give it to Lockheed along with the FSS contracts.

Presently both CSC and DTC do an outstanding job of providing the GA pilot with weather service and graphical flight planning software at no cost.

Judging from Lockheed's move to centralize FSS ( read that as a briefer in Kansas trying to tell folks in the Puget Sound area about the local weather FAT CHANCE!) we can expect a major degradation in service and quite probably another fee added to our flying pleasure.

When you get your congressman and Senator's address on the link above, also take the time to bring the impending DUAT(S) give away to their attention.

This is not only a convenience and financial issue, but impacts safety when weather briefings are less available or available in a less useful format.

The FAA announced this last year and has gone very quiet about it, which makes many people think they are going to slip it through while user fees are taking up all the bandwidth.

My local daily newspaper (Peninsula Daily news) has a similar feature or link where you can easily email your Federal (or state) representatives/senators about issues. Pretty slick feature, could be a lot of you guys' local newspapers have a similar set-up.
I emailed my fed people yesterday to tell them to JUST SAY NO! to unfair GA user fees.

Done...

the sad part is, if by chance these fees are past, it's common knowledge within goverment the majority of fees collected will most likely be diverted to some place other than the betterment of general aviation... So if you haven't already done so you need to act now and take a minute to submit your objection... This is one of the easiest forms you'll ever complete and it is emailed to everyone within your local state goverment...

God forbid we should ever be twenty years without a rebellion. ***Thomas Jefferson***

"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." **Thomas Jefferson**

I don't mind atall, in fact encourage everyone to send it to any aviation site they can dream up. If all 6 or 7 hundred thousand pilots sent in a message, maybe someone will recognize the importance of general aviation to the transport infrastructure, and hear the roar of the active masses who the government work for, rather than the whimper of a few.

Just when I'm ready to pull the trigger on buying my own plane, life gets in the way. Well to hell with that!

Thanks for posting this link- took less than a minute to fill out their form and their letter seemed very well thought out. Politics is sooo frustrating....thanks again for taking the time for making it easier for dolts like me :)

Now is there something we can do about the FAA move to Dubai????
