Wonder if they're hiring...I'll be a Janitor to be able live in a place like that!

Love it! And these videos DO NOT do justice to the view out the windshield. Spend a bit of time in that country and you'll know why some of us old farts stay homesick for the Arctic forever.

No truer words have been spoken Gump, I have nowhere as many years as you up there but I still feel the pull of the North every day.

Me three. If I get to go back though, it won't be Fairbanks or Paris on the Kuskokwim. Maybe Chugiak or Eagle River.

Great video,

I fly in to Bettles 3 to 4 times a year. The scenery is great and the
fishing is fantastic. Just a 2 hour flight. Excellent job on promoting a great place. =D>

There is an excellent book out , "Artic Bush Pilot", about Andy Anderson, and he built the Bettles Lodge at the airstrip and all the flying he did in the "50 and 60"s". Some really good pictures in the book. He flew everything from a T-Craft to a 600 hp Norseman. Pretty cool book, Good read.

Amazing. Someday soon I hope to be flying over that country again but looking out of the windshield instead of the passenger windows. Thanks for another bookmark in my folder 'eyes on the prize'. :D

That was the first "bush pilot" book I ever read (of many) and it was one of my favs. I had totally forgotten the connection to Anderson. Thanks.

Re: On the way to Bettles Lodge...

We always took the opportunity to stop at Bettles Lodge when we transited to Barrow from Anchorage or vice a versa. They had the best hot apple pie, but the worst icing. I picked up more ice going into Bettles than I ever did anywhere else. So much so that we once had an outline on the ground of the Twin Otter in ice as it slid off the airframe that was something like 6" deep. The Twin Otter can hold an astounding amount of airframe ice and still fly, you just can't use the flaps over 10°, which means a super high landing speed of like 75 knots, danger, danger, danger.

The area around that lodge is really beautiful, we always wanted something to break so we could spend a couple of days and kayak down the river.
