ONE FOR THE AUSSIES!

well, I thought I would put one out there for the Aussie flyers out there. a few days with a chain saw, brush cutter, and when i finally got bored of manual labour.....and excavator....and drake strip has been brought back to life after 30 years without a plane on it. it sits about 70 k's west of casino. Is 520 meters long but not very wide. no sock. is situated on a 20000 acre timber property so lots of great camping and walking trails. yards around to if you want to take out horses. plenty of motor bike trails.

THIS IS A PRIVATE STRIP AND NOT ON MY PROPERTY. however i have been put in charge of it. so contact me if you care to use it. owner is very layed back, so i doubt it will be a problem. He just like to be informed. THIS IS NOT AN ALA SO FLY AT YOUR OWN RISK. insure you pass the strip a couple of times first as cattle regularly hang around it. also check for bee boxes. be farmers also use this property and some times place boxes in middle of strip although they have been asked not to. best not to rely on that

Wow, you did a nice job.
What is the arrow for? T/O & Land in this direction only?

nah there its an extended threshold. there is an area before that about 20 meters long that looks good to put down in. but its full of small tire piercing stumps.

Re: ONE FOR THE AUSSIES!

Wow! I see the small dangerous tree stumps now, after you mentioned it. That arrow helps avoid them for SURE!

I learn something new everyday. Thank you for sharing the great photos, I miss the NSW blue skies already.

You champion Timbo, I'll give you a call this week some time. Had a nice scenic rim flight on Sunday with my young fella and his girl, bit of scud running and squall dodging but did get to see half a dozen whales near Bruns.

Re: ONE FOR THE AUSSIES!

thanks for all the compliments guys. our blue skys miss you to ted! when you come back next ill take you out to this strip, you can come out and meet my aboriginal mates out there, try some bush tucker and see them turtle dive, do a bit of mustering to if you like.

any time you want to do a fly out there john give me a yell, well go for a burn (though you better give me a head start!). ill show you around the place, is a great lunch stop to if you want to take lian! the whales about recently have been nuts! i did a run to evans a few weeks back and saw about 20 including a pod of 6 about 50m of cape byron! just wish this wind would piss off now!

next time ted comes over (8GCBC) you will have to take him for a spin in the maule! will cover a bit more ground than the drifter!

also have you heard about the strip john with the other maule there at casino is building out at tenterfield!? this strip sits pretty well exactly half way, might be a fun days flying for you, john, bill mills and I to do when he finishes that one

Sounds like a plan Tim no didn't know John was building a strip, I seem to fly when no one else is around.
When any of you boys from the states drop over give us a yell only to happy to go flying with ya'll, if you don't mind flying with a rookie, would love to have you share your skill set with me.

Re: ONE FOR THE AUSSIES!

Nothing I'd rather do than meet you Jeremy and get some pointers on how to treat this old ex girl of yours properly. Hope the pieces fall into place, very welcome to stay here if it works out.

Thats the other strip i was talking about you being able to take mike to, the coraki one was much more local and not surrounded by big gums. Maybe when your up next we could meet noel (51c150) there and do an over night. My mates got his own trap shooting range near by, pubs 4ks walk down the road, and i can dro my boat/ canoes out there during the week before and we can do some fishing on the clarence.
