Any preferences over the different flight schools/ rental options out of the Boise area?

I have participated in a couple classes from McCall Mtn. Flying and was very satisfied with the classes, the instructors, and the results. They are very close to a lot of good strips to practice on and some beautiful country.

If you live in Az. part of the year, they also offer a class out of Bluff Utah which intoduces you to many of the old mining strips in SE Utah., some outstanding scenery, and a good place to practice.

As said many times in here before, good idea to get some instruction in backcountry/mountain flying before doing many of these strips.

I know you want a school in Boise, but you should check out Baker City. Here is the website.

They have a couple of great instructors. They have a 172L, 172XP (Both IFR), a 182 and a Schweizer 300C helicopter. I know they will work with out of town people; they may make you a good deal. Ask for Troy or Genny. They will go from PPL to Commercial in Fixed wing and rotor wing.

There is a good club in Nampa that trains in a 140. They also have a 182, or did when I got my ticket anyway. Chuck Ruffing was/is the instructor and was very good.

The cost of getting a ticket through them was way less than a FBO.

My mistake, I assumed(I should know better) that you were looking for backcountry experience. What was the name of this website again?

Sorry I don't think I was very clear. I already have my private, and tailwheel. I am currently living in arizona and will be back in Boise for a week over thanksgiving. I would love to get some backcountry experience but just in case the weather does not cooperate I would still like to fly. So I was wondering about rental options in the Boise area.
