Waves of green auroras reflect on the calm waters of the Lake Hood Seaplane Base (Lake Spenard side) on October 13, 2012 at 12:16 am. During this single 6-second exposure I used my headlamp to illuminate the red Cessna 195 on floats, a classic built in 1949. Anchorage International Airport behind the left wing….no city lights were going to stop this aurora show!

Back in the day used to fly from Fairbanks to Bettles at night and would shut off all the lights and panel lights and watch the Northern lights in the wind screen.....like a drive in movie

One winter in Fairbanks, I talked a maintenance shop into keeping my Cub in a back corner and letting me work on it after hours. Some of those evenings got mighty late, and I was working a. Regular day as well.

This was in January, and several nights,driving home after midnight, I'd stop and watch the lights play. Pretty magical stuff.

Great photo, and the Lights are NOT easy to photograph.

If not photoshop, I am trying to figure out how the photographer got something as dim as the Aurora in the same exposure as the lights across the lake.

The lights were anything but dim that night! they were bright and brilliant, just as you see in the picture. No photo shop was needed!
