Oregon, Beaver Marsh Airfield, CAUTIONS

Picture of Beaver Marsh Airport, Oregon (without snow). Please consider it dangerous for all types of aircraft. Large sharp rocks have apparently been placed in various sections of the runway by vandals. It needs a caretaker!

It would only take a few days to make the airfield nice again. Unfortunately I am stuck in Hawaii until Summer, or I would accept your offer. Let 's keep in touch ....

Snow was very light this season 2014.01.18.

Wasn't there an OPA work party there a year or two ago?

Not to sure when anyone has done anything to the place. It really was messy when I stopped by to check it out on about 20-JAN-2014. I was driving to Odell Lake to stay at a cabin to do some Nordic Skiing in Pengra Pass.

It is a pretty nifty place. Hopefully the airfield will have a few friends to care of the place soon.

And potato salad, a bag of chips, salsa. Who's got a grill?
As for the rocks being placed where somebody could hit them....I am thinking somebody local that hates airplane noise.

Not that the idea of placing rocks on strips to prevent use is anything new, but this reminds me about how lots of the FS roads outside of Bend (in the vicinity of single track trails), mountain bikers have been doing the same thing, to get cars and trucks off the dirt ROADS so they can enjoy them for their riding pleasure. Cars or airplanes it doesn't matter any more....

Alert the local cops and highway patrol, too. What would they do if someone was putting large sharp chunks of asphalt that are nearly impossible to see out on highway 97 for someone to hit at 65 mph? Someone needs to go to jail . . .

I feel the same about it.

Agreed. If there is an attempt to harm somebody or property for no reason, the law should get involved for everybody's well being.

Beaver Marsh is not an ideal place and it's mostly forgotten by it's new owner, the State and OPA.

Thank you for your guidance.

Is it not still owned by some random person in CA?

The owner has been there once or twice. He does not fly and has never owned an airport before.

I like the guy but he admits to knowing nothing about the place. Seems like an honest guy.

Interesting it looks like the ownership changed on airnav.com since when I had last looked, still someone from CA. And the new listed manager lives just down the road from my hanger. I assume you contacted one of them?

I talked with the owner, manager, OPA, and Oregon Depart. of Aviation last year. Nice guys. But, I don't think the airfield is a priority now. Nobody has shown much interest except me.

The owner said to use the airfield anytime even when covered with snow. ODOT says owner has last word on operations there.

So here we are... a 4000' foot airstrip next to a beautiful National Park with great weather etc etc...

Also,

Paul the Manager is OPA member and Greg still owns it.

Re: Oregon, Beaver Marsh Airfield, CAUTIONS

Oppps. Didn't know it was a private field. Always thought it was public ( state owned ). Why does the sectional chart say "State"?? :?: Huh,wa, how? I've never landed there, just drove by. Certainly don't want to trespass if it is private now. Still willing to help clean up if owner/manager won't shoo me away with a 12ga. [-X

Somebody PM me when this happens and I'll drive over with some lunch, and my work gloves.
A day working on a airport is better than sports on the dang TV. Plus, I'd like to have a face to some of the names here.

Good deal. The owner really has no problem with people using or improving his airfield.

If you guys want to get started call the manager on airnav.

I am with you, rather work on the runway than sit at home. Would love to meet you guys too.
