Oregon Mogas

Seems like good news in Oregon. Airplanes, boats, chainsaws etc are exemp from the ethynol requirment as a lot of you already know. The problem is to get sombody to market it.

Colvin Oil Company in Medford brought in some clear unleaded 87(as they call it) for a trial about six months ago from Portland I believe. Then it got a bit harder to get so they got some from Reno and also dedicated a much larger tank cus interest is high.

I picked up 90 gal yesterday at 3.89 and I got some more info on availability. There last batch was from Portland and it was 92 oct. It seems that Portland has 84 octane that they mix with Eth to make pump 87. They also have 92 they mix with the 84 and then Eth to make pump 92. So the gas stations get the Eth 87 and the Eth 92 and use blending pumps to give the mid grade.

Colvin said that there bigest market is aircraft use. They intend to serve that market as long as they can get the 92 octane. That should make the guys with the STC requiring higher octain Mogas happy.

Tim

Looks like we will be in good shape for the near futer

The FBO at Lebanon sells MOGAS already. He is supposed to take over Mulino and supply both AVGAS and MOGAS there too.

Yes, Larry Knox, the airport administrator at Lebanon State and main FBO has taken over as FBO at Mulino too. When they added the 100 LL service last spring, they installed a dual port pump, but only one tank. They probably thought they would sell jet-a there someday. Larry is installing another tank for mogas. He is also an LSA distributor, hence his keen interest in mogas on Oregon airports.

Unfortunately the paperwork has taken longer than planned so right now Lebanon state is completely shut down to replace the runway and won't open until next month, and the tank isn't in at Mulino. Not the way Larry wanted it. They will probably all come back on-line about the same time during November.

Larry may also take over Cottage Grove State, and if so he is planning on installing mogas there too.

Wish we had a lot more Larry Knox cowboys in the Northwest, WA, MT and ID could sure use him. Drop in and meet him at Lebanon State ... he is a cowboy, really.

Is Lebanon the only Mogas airport in WA, OR, CA, ID, and Nevada?

Lebanon State (S20) is the only public use, paved, airport with mogas. It is listed in Air-Nav. Theoretically Buhl, ID (U03) may have mogas, it is listed as "on request" in Flight Guide. I doubt it will have it much longer as ID is going E10 rapidly because of the federal mandate, EISA 2007, and unless they pass a state law banning ethanol blending in premium unleaded, the whole state will probably be E10 by the end of next year.

You can also include MT, AZ and UT in your list if you are talking about public use, paved airports. Some private strips in OR and UT list mogas, but the one in OR (Rome Service, 0OR6) should be E10 by now.
