PA-12 Takeoff and Landing on Skis

I'm still pretty undecided on how best to edit flying videos, so I figured I'd give it too attempts and let the enthusiasts around these parts decide.

Here is my first attempt

and here is a second try with natural sound, and natural speed

So, which would you rather watch? I'm a bit partial to the sped up as there is something aesthetically pleasing about the smooth turns and plane shadow on the snow.

Re: PA-12 Takeoff and Landing on Skis

I like the second one more because I couldn't take the music on the first one. :) I tend to only use music if the natural audio is poor quality. I have a few cameras that don't handle loud environments well and the audio sounds terrible, so I bump it down to -24db and just put some light music over the top. Otherwise, the natural soundtrack of engines and propellers and airspeed is all the music I could ask for.

I think if you have the editing tools available, a combination of natural speed during "interesting" footage and double, triple, quadruple et al speed during similar, boring footage works best. Sometimes if you have a 15 minute clip, it might seem boring at 100% speed, but run it up to 2000% speed and all of a sudden it becomes interesting. But everything in moderation...

Sharp image quality there.

I'm partial to the second one as well. Speedups can be good for gettin' somewhere if it's not too long, otherwise a transition works better.

I can go both ways for music but like it better when the sounds of the engine and com voices are mixed in.

Despite everything inside me telling me no, I had to check out your website. To my delight, it's pretty cool (you have better taste in outdoor activities than you do in music. 8) )

The footage is good, the music I would go with a different choice. Keep up the great work Matt.

I enjoyed the highspeed view but agree with Zane on the sounds. On the other hand I went to your Youtube Chanel and watched "War and Miller" all 3 parts and really liked it. That is some fun times =D>

Re: PA-12 Takeoff and Landing on Skis

The music doesn't really fit but video wise I'd say the first one.Try something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WPCLda_erI with the sound on the video in the back ground like zane suggested.Trance makes a great backdrop music,it can be sped up as needed if the vid has a varied speed and there are a lot of tunes with great transitions to fit videos action levels. If you're a hip hop fan I'm sure you can find a few electronic tracks used in some music to tie it in to your liking while not being overtly aggressive to someones ears that isn't a fan of that genre of music.

Thanks for all the advice everyone, I'll see if I can step up the videos when the weather improves a bit.
