Bet he had good Cleveland brakes instead of the mechanical heel brakes Piper put on the airplane. Good that he flew all the way down, however. The advantage of heel brakes on TW airplanes is that you pretty much have to either use rudders or brakes. Rudders were for when fast, brakes were for when very slow. Better to go on your back than to hit a golfer with the prop, however. The tactical situation is always fluid.

Contact, I fly our cub with cowboy boots on and it is perfect for being on the rudders and heel brakes at same time [emoji2]

I do the same thing in the Pa-11, works perfect. Its like cub heel brakes and boots were made for each other.

I've never had a problem hitting the brakes and rudders. Even flying bare foot

Yeah. That damn heat. Still getting used to it. I also fly in boots, and muck boots with no problem. I keep my brakes pumped up high
