Hello everyone. I strongly considering the purchase of a '72 M4-210C that is on the east coast. I have NO Maule experience and was hoping I can get some pointers + any insight into the little Maule. Also, if anyone has a Maule in the Oregon area I would love to come by and see it to get a better idea of what I am getting myself info.

I think you should ask on maulepilots.org.

You're not that far from Jeremy, Angwin/Calistoga, who you should definitely chat up (see mauleak.com). He may even know the complete history of the plane you are interested in.

Sean, we don't use the M____ word here. You should probably get a Cessna or Super Cub. M people drink cheap beer and eat out of garbage cans. We here at BackCountryPilot.org prefer fine wine with our arugula and free range organic chicken.

Last time I checked, we M%&!@ drivers would drink high dollar beer just as quickly as we would cheap beer...as long as someone else is buying the high $ stuff...we aint none too picky.

Hello Sean,

I have a 1973 M-4 210C Maule and am very happy with it. Maules are a lot of aircraft for the $$$$. The 210 hp IO-360 engine only has a 1500 hour TBO and are very expensive to overhaul. That said, Maules offer great short field performance, climb and you can carry a lot of gear. There are a lot of great mods out there for Maules like heavy duty gear, VGs, elevator gap seals, oversized tires and tailwheels too.

If you can get into a M4-210C with a low time engine and prop for 40K to 50K you should do just fine. That is about half the price of an older 150 hp Super Cub (not to start a riot, Super Cubs are cool too).

It might be kind of stalkerish, but look up Make/Model search in the FAA database and filter it by the state of Oregon. You'll likely find a few registered in the Rogue Valley. Look up the owner's phone number and just call them and tell them what's you're looking for and why.

For instance, here is a Make search on "maule"

It lists each model and the distribution of registrations by state for each model. Click on the all the OREGON links.

Aircraft with curves are sexy!

If you can't track down anyone with a Maule locally there is someone who offer flight instruction in a Maule at BFI. A bit of a drive but it may be an option.
