Paging emflys

Did you make or buy those cool carbon fiber carburetor drain pans you had on your S7S?

gb: I'm less then 30 miles away from the Milloway Skunkworks, let me know if you want me to go over there and rattle his cage.... I check in there every few weeks anyway as it's on the way to a lot of other places I go plus I never know what new thing I'll see next! Like a carbon fiber firewall, that cub-a-like he built had one, I didn't know you could do that! That would save a bunch of weight over the usual stainless one that comes in the kit.

Re: Paging emflys

Joel has some cool ideas and is quite a guy. I stopped by a couple weeks back and talked for a while with him. He has some cool carbon fiber droop tips for the S7 that I think are pretty cool looking. He is also messing around wither aileron hinges trying to make it so the controls are lighter so he can remove the spades. Fun stuff.

Re: Paging emflys

Thanks courierguy. CF firewall? That's neat. I figured that stuff would burn like a house afire. Maybe not. Thanks for the offer to drop in. He sent us some pics of his cub-like creation. Really nice work.

whee, the new S7 doesn't come with aileron spades. Not sure if that's good or bad. Since we don't have them I probably won't know either way.

Maybe it's got a few layers of asbestos.

Re: Paging emflys

Should change this to: gbflyer fishing for free Rans tips. Anyway, what do you old pros on the subject use for a cabin step and a refueling step? Might have a hard time doing either the way it is now, which is without any step of any kind.

I usually have to find a stepladder. Or someone taller than me.

Re: Paging emflys

I think you could say Emfly used an adjustable step. It varied with the size of the bushwheels.

Re: Paging emflys

Yeah you won't need a step, just the tire.

One other thing you should do is fuel tank vents like Mark Pringle does. The factory setup can cross feed and drain fuel on the ground if you're parked on a slope with one wing higher than the other.

You're going to love the plane.

Re: Paging emflys

Small tire and stock gear? You'll need a very short step ladder to refuel. Getting in is easy, no step required.

Airstreak 29"s? No ladder needed to refuel, the tires put you at the perfect height =D> Getting in for the pilot is still easy, and again the tire kind of helps there. I have not felt the need to have a gear leg step, and I could since I have the Roberts gear, just don't need it. Passengers have a harder time getting in when on the big gear and tires. Screw 'em, they are damn lucky to be getting a ride anyway.

I have the stock vent system with the newer large tanks, and what BTV says is true, but only with very full fuel. I rarely have full fuel when slope landing/parking. I like the way the stock vent system exits clear the hell away from the skylight/wind shield. It will be easy to retro to the top type vent (they'll still x feed no matter what) if I feel the need, easy for you also. Get that thing in the air and you can tweak it later.

Re: Paging emflys

I would be interested in seeing what others have for a no bullshit empty weight, specifying what tires you're on, both seats or not, etc. I'll show you mine if you show me yours. :-)
