Parts Availability

While being aware of the ongoing parts shortage, I'm thinking that some of it is caused by the vendors themselves. I became stuck in a rather out of the way place with a dead alternator last week and contacted three vendors listed on line with availability as much as 30 days out. Called Aviall (now Boeing) who had six in stock but wouldn't sell or ship without an account being created---I was on my phone and after looking realized it would take forever, then "needed approval". Finally got great help from Aircraft Specialties with a credit card and overnight shipping.

Maybe its just another example of dominance (Boeing, think Foreflight) on the supply chain. Had to vent.

Re: Parts Availability

Logistics wins, or loses wars. Back when there was some competition, FedX made it last a bit. Even further back when airplanes were cheap, we just hit it with a hammer and went on.
