PHOTOS - 1st Annual Nor Cal / Sierra Fly-In

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Russ, nice to meet you on the way up there.

AKT... what percentage of those landings and takeoffs would be do-able with an old light 172 proudly boasting 145 rip-roaring horsepower?

And the rest of you stop laughing!

Re: PHOTOS - 1st Annual Nor Cal / Sierra Fly-In

I bet the others would agree that if your light you would have no problem on a good number of them. Others would be no option, but honestly the ranchs are good as are the endless roads on the circuit. A lot of the places come down to tire size and DA on the day. Light is key. I would say average length on most is anywhere around 1000-1500 with grass or smooth packed dirt. Just remember, your operating at or above 5000' most of the time on the North Cirq and above 4000' on the South Cirq, its just hotter on the south making them about even.

Come on up sometime and we will start out very easy and let you decide what is doable.

Would love to have you!

We are doing it again in October. Any dates work best for folks?

AKT, you must be reading my mind! October is pretty open for me, except the first weekend. How about Columbus Day weekend?

Somewhere around 7-10 October?

I've been spending my hours in class lecture today surfing all of the photos on my ipad... :D

We pretty much have the same plane except mine has a tailwheel. You could go anywhere I went, except for that ridge top landing. I wouldn't do that again without some bigger tires, it was too rough for 8.00's. I would also want a climb prop. The ranches, dirt roads and dry lake beds would be fine for you. Keep in mind I had 2 on board for most of these places also. What size tires and what prop are you running on your 172?

Nice vid Rob I'm curious how the ol 65hp Rotax would do for a take off roll at 9000ft.

Re: PHOTOS - 1st Annual Nor Cal / Sierra Fly-In

Awesome weekend of flying! Kevin put on a great shindig - amazing flying in amazing country, BBQ'd Elk, keg of Sierra NV Tumbler, good company - epic! There are spots for everyone. Long, smooth beautiful strips, and high, short, uphill, and ROCKY spots for the big tire folks.

I gotta say, Kevin can fly that 180. Some of the spots in his circuit I'm not sure I would have had the balls to land the first time. One things for sure...the bushwheels got a work out.

Was great flying with an awesome bunch of guys... and 2 girls. Stacey and Sandy were troopers!

Thanks Kevin for setting up and hosting a stellar flying adventure. Can't wait to do it again.

Here are some selected pics, and a link the album.

Awesome pics guys, looks like it was a lot of fun, hope I can make the next one. Stuck in NJ with the 180 waiting for these biblical rains to let up. I almost forgot how much east coast wx can suck.
