Picked up the rest of my kit!
Aircraft building and project-level overhaul forum -- Kitplanes, experimental amateur-built, homebuilding, or even restoration of certified aircraft.
I've been slowly but surely working on a Rocky Mountain Wings Ridge Runner model 3 over the last 3 years, and i finally got around to picking up the fuselage! I swung through Stace Shrader's shop in Nampa, ID on my way across the country to my new duty station. My progress since picking it up? It's sitting in the garage while I finish up primary instructor training here in San Antonio.
Getting it ended up being a bit of an adventure. I had to switch the pick-up day at the last minute, so I ended up showing up a week earlier than planned, but Stace and crew put in a few long days and finished it up for me in time. He said it was the fastest they had finished up a fuselage kit. They were doing some finishing work on it when I got to Nampa, so I kicked around the shop for a few hours, talked airplanes, and tried my hand at a bit of welding(I'm terrible at it by the way). What really impressed me was the extra time they were willing to do and the hours they were willing to put in to accommodate my early arrival.
Now, to finish up training and get going on the project! I am hoping to have it in the air within a year.

Congrats? How is Stace doing? I hadn't seen much of an update since their accident. What are headed to San Antonio for? We just lost a few guys going down there to teach the very first course Enlisted Aircrew go through at the Center of Excellence.

Stace was doing really well. His wife was up and walking around, still obviously in some pain, but considering it hasn't been that long since the accident, she was looking really well. I am in San Antonio for PIT, heading to Columbus AFB to be a T-6 flight instructor. I should be wrapping up in November, then off to fly the great Mississippi back country, and brand new students...
