Pilot buzzes the beach

Who was the idiot pilot that buzzed a beach full of people in TX? He was in Diamond DA-40 and there are tons of pictures and video of him all over the internet. In one of the pictures his wingtip looks to be no more than 10 feet from a Jeep while he is in a low banking turn. This is not the kind of press that GA needs...especially in TX after the Austin incident

It funny how one bad pilot puts us all at risk, yet thousands of bad drivers have no affect on driving. :(

I'm not condoning what he did but I agree with you 1000% on that one. There's a reason my tailnumber is 3" numbers on the vertical stab. It's really hard to see from the ground :D Just kidding guys.....I go way out in the toolies when I do my pine tree slaloming.

You think the economy is bad now? Just think if they did Bi Annuals for drivers licensees the freeways would be empty.

From the news report: "KPRC Local 2 obtained snapshots taken by people on Crystal Beach in Bolivar. In them, a single-engine plane is clearly seen hovering close to beach-goers."

Damn. The Diamond is clearly the ultimate bush plane!

Word from TX is that the feds know who it was and are going after him.

Personally I would like to see them make an example of him and show the public this crap is not condoned.

Hope they do not require these in our planes. Also a good reason not to have it in our car.

Re: Pilot buzzes the beach

It's amazing how something like this has already reached most of the civilized planet.

It's also called reckless dangerous and on and on.

I wonder why someone can drive a car at a high rate of speed within a couple of feet of a pedestrian with a baby stroller and no one thinks anything of it, but if someone flies an airplane within 500 feet of persons or property then it is considered "very dangerous" [-X [-X [-X

Don't get me wrong. I am not condoning his actions.
It just seems like this is getting made into a mountain when it should be a molehill.

Pilots getting all over the news saying how dangerous and irresponsible it is doesn't help the average GA pilot either.
That just perpetuates the fears of the public that airplanes are dangerous and need more regulation.

I would bet a good number of pilots here have buzzed some one before. (usually a friend).

It was stupid to buzz the beach, but does anyone here really believe lives were in any more danger than the pedestrian with the baby carriage???

Re: Pilot buzzes the beach

Yep, they found him. Looks like he's Bryan Kirbow from Beaumont, Texas. He appears to have put a comment on his Facebook page stating "We want to make such low Passes your mom would have a fit."There are also photos of him with the plane.

Re: Pilot buzzes the beach

Is this one of those, "Hold my beer and watch this!" deals?

When he sits down in front of the FAA, bet they have a print out of his Face Book page too.

If you are going to buzz, you gotta excercise at least some descretion.

BTW, there is nothing cooler than being the buzzee when it's a glider doing a high speed pass! Sounds like a jet, but without the engines - - or so I've heard.

Re: Pilot buzzes the beach

Looks like the pilot lost his license for at least a year.

Re: Pilot buzzes the beach

Wondered whatever happened with that... Glad the FAA made it known that they would not tolerate that sort of thing. There's a time and place for flying low and that sure as heck wasn't one of them.

This looks like one of those 'I'll-take-the-fun-and-y'all-take-the-risk' type deals.
