Pleasant Valley (P48) Fly-In

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Pleasant Valley (P48) Fly-In

The Arizona Pilots Assn held a fly-in and training session at Pleasant Valley Airport on 2/12/12. Over 20 aircraft arrived for a great day of kicking tires, eating burgers and hot dogs and two training sessions.

Wayne Fischer lead a discussion on mountain flying to a full house and Preston Westmoreland’s “Desert
Survival” and “Have Plane Will Travel” videos were be presented.

The Assn had a 20' wide by 1100' long area marked off on a gravel strip for wannabees to test their bc skills and for others to practice their landing and takeoff techniques. A Squadron of Yaks gave a fly-over, the Seaplanes practiced on Pleasant Valley Lake and the rest of us had a real good day making new acquaintances.

The wx was perfect and a good time was had by everyone.

BTW: The Arizona Pilots Assn is very active getting more bc airstrips opened and the State just passed a new law including aviation as a recreational activity, i.e., reducing landowner liability.

You may find the following video an effective 'sleep aid' if you are tossing and turning at night.

Is old Roy Couliette still there with his glider operation called Turf Soaring? I got memories there from 33 !(#*$ years ago. Roy would be an old codger now.

Roy is still around, he's the one who was giving rides in his Champ all day. He doesn't run the soaring school any more, but he's still very much a part of the airport.

Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted.

Cool... what a character. Glad he's still flying. He won't remember me personally probably, but if you see him tell him that one of the kids from ASU that used to come there and fly that old Pilatus in 1979 said hello and thanks for having a soaring school.
