Re: Portable Battery

I have the antigravity unit.

I experimented with it starting my pickup with the battery out. No problem. Seems amazing.

I bring it on my ADV motorcycle trips as my DRZ lacks a kickstarter. Have never needed it but nice to have.

I bring it on adventures in the Maule. God willing will never need it. It is hard to imagine how to disconnect the thing safely with that immense 180 horsepower sword swinging up there.

For the extra 30 bucks, what does the XP-3 have over the XP-1. Does it crank more or just have a few extra ports.

Re: Portable Battery

There are more adaptors with the more expensive one, also a little more CCA. IIRC the less expensive one lacks a battery meter. I don't remember about the flashlight.

It's still hard for me to believe these little boogers can jump start a battery. Technology is crazy.

Did a Test with mine all "DEAD Batteries" first was the Honda Accord sitting in Driveway for past year -Hooked it up and Varoom ! Went out to Motorhome (454 GMC motor) that hasn't run in months -Varoom -and than to the Cessna 210 with dead battery -Varoom . Came home and recharged Laptop and Cell phone -still has 80% to go. I've ordered a second one for wife's car . Whole package (looks like a small zipper binder ) weighs less than 2 lbs. :D

 Has anyone thought about linking several in series and welding with them? Could get some one home.

Re: Portable Battery

After success with first Portable battery decided to see if it was "airplane adaptable" so my buddy's all electric RV-9 is now set up with a separate back up battery for all the electronics including Electronic mags.
Switch to run one (primary SBS-J16) or other 20 amp "jump starter" battery under dash.

Re: Portable Battery

With the advancements in technology over the last decade I am not often impressed, but this is amazing. I had to watch the video and read the reviews to believe it myself. Just ordered an XP-3 from Amazon for $90. This will be a great insurance package to carry in my tool kit.

Re: Portable Battery

Last year before Christmas, Lowes had a similar product on sale for something like 60-70 dollars so I bought a couple, one for me and one for a gift to my son. Mine came in handy to charge the cell phone during a power outage when work was frantic to talk to me.

I had the occasion to try it on a discharged battery on my vette. it had been sitting too long and would only click. I hooked up the LiPo and turned it on expecting immediate joy, but no joy! What I found was the battery was discharged and also was still a GOOD battery, making it very thirsty when the LiPo was connected. It was using all the current that the leads could supply to charge the wet cell and would not crank the car. 30 minutes on the 10 amp charger and off we went.

If you notice on the videos, all of them that I have seen are showing cranking the engine with the wet cell unhooked. This is logical because then the LiPo battery can give all it's capacity to the starter and not the discharged wet cell in the vehicle. I have seen the same issues many times when jumping big diesel engines in the extreme cold. One is better off hooking up the jumper cables and going for a cup of coffee to give it time to top off the wet cells.

If I am ever in a bind and have one of the LiPo batteries handy, I hope that I have a half inch wrench so I can pull a terminal off the wet cell.

Just my $.02 and personal observation.

Re: Portable Battery

I tried to cut and paste the comparison chart from their website but lost the chart formatting. The information is all still there. Basically, their newest, XP-10 has more cranking amps (300/600 peak vs. 200/400 peak).

I just bought the XP-1 a couple of weeks ago, and the XP-10 was just released after that. Does anyone know if the XP-1 will crank an IO-550? I know it cranks V-8's, but was concerned about the high compression of the IO-550.

Also, the 12V outlet on the XP-1 is only rated for 8 amps IIRC. On the XP-10 it is good for 10 amps. This turned out to be an issue because I wanted to use it to run a small low pressure/high volume inflator to inflate a kayak but the XP-1 won't run it. Nor will the cigarette lighter outlet on the 182. The inflator nameplate indicates that it draws 11 amps.

Funny that with all the various connectors they include, they don't include the basic cigarette lighter type outlet. I had to order that separately for about ten bucks. Besides the inflator, I have a floodlight (no I don't poach deer!) that uses the cigarette lighter type plug.

Do not purchase from amazon. My XP-10 unit failed last week and the company has ignored all requests to deal with me since I purchased from Amazon.

Re: Portable Battery

See other thread on antigravity batteries. I posted a photo of my exploded battery core. The company says they have heard of many similar reports but all from Amazon purchases....fwiw

Yikes- good info, I just got on-line and canceled my order on Amazon. Seemed like a good deal at the time but the feedback from BCP seems otherwise....

Thanks for the info.

Re: Portable Battery

So ...... the company Antigravity was a real pain to deal with. They claimed that they had never seen this bulging battery in any of their authentic products. They were not willing to help me and referred me to Amazon. They said they have a policy of not dealing with anyone who purchases products through Amazon.

My return window through Amazon had expired so Amazon referred me directly to the retailer (Tool Deals).

I emailed Tool Deals and they emailed me right back. They said that the ARE a dealer for Antigravity batteries and that they would replace my battery. I mailed them my old one and I got another one in the mail about a week later. It looks authentic (and so did the original one), so I still believe that Antigravity has a QA problem. But I am satisfied at this point to have a new XP-10 that I am willing to give another chance. But my advice to anyone interested in one of these batteries is to call Antigravity and double check their warranty policy. Then purchase directly from them....and keep your invoice.

The compression ratio on a 550 is a lot less than todays cars and trucks.

On your recommendation I bought one. Love it. Bought a second one and the clamp busted in my hand when showing it to a friend. Will return to Amazon and get a replacement. I don't know if it will start my diesel truck but it turned over my wife's Xterra without hesitation. Amazing technology.
