Have a problem with the website? Maybe you can find the answer here.

Is there anyway to receive posts via email? I find if I have to logon and go to the forums, I rarely do that. Yet if I received posts via email, I would be much more active in the discussions.

Another alternative would be RSS feeds. I know you somewhat support RSS feeds but the feed content only includes the subject line. It needs to include the body of the post.

Just my two cents.

You do not have to log on to see what's new. You only have to log on to post. I very rarely log on. 99% of the time the website sees me as a guest. You go to the front, main page and scroll to the bottom to see what's new. Unless what you meant by logging on was to actually go online to get the web page. I don't see a way around that without some website mods.

I realize I don't need to log in. I guess I meant having to open a browser and read posts from a web page. I would prefer posts to forums (which I've subscribed to) to come via email or rss feed (if the rss feed included the full body of the post).

I'm part of several forums that do that (such as the Husky forum) which I know several on this list subscribe to.

I know of the type. We have a Beech list that was started as an email list. Thankfully you can also access it on the web as there's no way I want 4000 emails a month which is what that list generates.

That's the problem with lists that send you an e-mail. I belong to one. Gone for four days, and I'll have thirty to fifty posts to nuke. I've been gone a week and our server choked, and refused further incoming.

Count your blessings.

The listserv model is outdated in my opinion. It is the ancestor of the modern web forum. However, I can see one advantage being able to follow the posts if you don't have access to a conventional web browser, or you're on a lightweight handheld device and want just text.

There is no way to do that with our current version of the forum software without heavily modifying it. I've only got a certain amount of time to devote to this as it is, and I would like to dedicate that time to more features, as well as new filtering methods for Assholes. :)

RSS though is something we can work on. My current feed is generated with a fairly simple tool that is designed to just list recent topics. I can look into generating another feed type though that is more comprehensive and includes post message text.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

The Yahoo groups I subscribe to send posts directly to my blackberry as a Daily Digest meaning once every 24 hours. I scan it to see if there is something interesting if I have time.

I usually have 25-40 posts on one email and if I don't want to read it, I just zap it.

Zane will have to tell us if it is possible here but with 4000 posts per month, it would still become nauseating.

No one will receive any email they don't deserve. :)

Anything like this (if I ever work on it) would be opt-in only. More than likely it will just be RSS (non-email news feed) since our host doesn't look kindly on sending out large batches of email.

Gee it it so much effort to log on to the best forum on the web. Can somebody rub my feet.

I agree RSS would be a better option than email. If you decide it's something that is viable, I'd love to see it as an option. I can dump RSS feeds right into my email.

I realize it's not the right option for everyone but for me, email is the only way to stay on top of a forum. It's easy to delete topics I'm not interested in. If it's not in my email, I only occasionally make it on the website and by that time the topic is generally history.

Thanks,
Brent

Glad to hear that you are working on asshole filtering Zane! Those who can't comprehend the spirit of this community and lurk about anyhow searching for a chance to belittle others or turn people in to the Feds are about as worthless as the proverbial "truckload of dead rats in a tampon factory!"

Interesting that us self proclaimed assholes (yep the shoe fits !) are being "belittled" here and it looks like the censorship and filtering will be increased. That's too bad but inevitable I guess. If this post suddenly disappears or you don't hear from westernpilot anymore, know that it wasn't my choice. The management has elected to make a change and some of us [assholes] will likely be caught in the crossfire.

UT180-

What do you find difficult or time consuming about checking the board through a web browser? Are you on a slow internet connection? Are you using pages like View Recent Topics or View Posts Since Last Visit? I find that they help immensely in following new activity.

Haha...Are you rehearsing for a play or something? What censoring has occurred beyond using the word filter to turn your initials into an ASCII representation of a derrier? It's pretty funny IMO, especially given the fact that I'm not allowed to even browse your fun little website. I thought it was entertaining at first, but then my account was deleted (which happened long before I used the word filter.) Who's the ogre now?

We have made it pretty clear we won't allow libtards to corrupt the sanctity of bcah_.org. ;-) One of the board must have booted you.

Actually, we are attempting to limit access by moles etc. thereby making it safer to share w/o the fear that everything you post is being forwarded to a federal agency...

For those that prefer email lists, yet don't want their email boxes clogged, it's very simple and effective to setup a new email address with gmail or one of the other free services and have those emails sent to that email.

I do this with a couple of lists and it works great. It doesn't clog up my normal email and it automatically saves them for later searching.
