Re: Project: 180 Skywagon - The On-Going Saga

Been a while since I added to this thread as I've been busy building another Wagon, but I'm pumped to have found my next mod for my buggy.

I've been looking for a long while, but I finally found a great candidate for a HP increase. Its a first run, 1700hr, non prop struck IO-520F. Hoping to get a nice boost in power for sure...

Pulled it out of the crate today and thought it deserved a portrait. Will be a while still before I have time to really dig in, but I will keep you guys posted.

Good score! No doubt you are keeping a eye on the AD they are trying to push, be easy to comply with now. So, is this going to be a pponk or going to be a Great Plains deal?

Re: Project: 180 Skywagon - The On-Going Saga

OK,
SO I have been looking over this project while at work for at least a week. I think I have put more time into reading every word than Bigrenna put in to taking out a single screw, then stripping it, then polishing it, then putting it back, then taking it out again, then priming it to ultimately paint the darn thing! The build was an amazing thing to see! I just have one question.

Where's the PIREP on all those amazing changes that you promised so long ago?

And now I find out I have another 180 Saga to go read through? Thank you god for letting me be entertained while saving lives in the ER! The ER can be soooooo boring at times!

Bigrenna,
I need the PIREP, give me the PIREP, PPPPPPLLLLLLEEEEAAAASSSSS!

Well here goes nuthin... Finally got some time so I'm taking the plunge and pulling the tarp off my 520 core. It's all broken down and off to the respective O/H shops.

Going to use the Pponk STC with Millennium cylinders. Been looking forward to the HP bump for a long time!

Nice! Did you get a 7th stud heavy case?
Nice part about getting the fuel injection is the flow divider makes an excellent pre made 6 point primer or are you going to run it fuel injected?

Cobbler's kids brother... Cobbler's kids.

Engine is pretty much finished, just have to break it in on the dyno. I've been flat out with customer projects. June is hopefully MY month to focus on the wagon.

Give it time, you’ll get fed up and take a month off of work to finish your own. Ask me how I know.

Re: Project: 180 Skywagon - The On-Going Saga

Getting closer to getting my bird back in the sky! Pulled the 520 out of the test cell today after breaking it in for 2 hrs and working the dyno.

It was super smooth in the cell so, so far so good. A couple of other projects to wrap up this month, and then Im taking the month of June to get my bird back in the air.
