Project: John's 1955 'Super-70'

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Answers to recent questions:
New Empty weight with 8qts oil is 1405 lbs.

Speeds discussed are TAS in MPH.

The 200 cm 3-blade MT prop indicated 8% more static thrust than the 210 cm MT 2-blade and equal in cruise at 3000' and 6000' DA. At 10K+DA, the 3-blade was faster in cruse and allowed a greater ROC.

I plan to head back out west again several times in 2015 and would like to have some of the local boys (or girls) show me around. Let me make a shout out to Tracy & and Dallas O'Conner, owners of Dallas Aero in Poplar Montana. Fantastic FBO, great steaks and good whiskey too. ;) They put me up for the night on my way through.

AWB Hydro skis will go on next week...we just got about a foot of snow and the lakes will be hard soon.

The April issue of Cessna Flyer featured a story about my C170B project. Yes, I am very proud and happy with it. The .pdf file is too large to add, so here is a link to a .pdf copy on my Dropbox folder.

I plan to make several trips into the hills of Western Montana this summer. Hope to see some of you out there.

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!

Re: Project: John's 1955 'Super-70'

The GRT device is not an EFIS, it is a flight and engine data collection device for use in post flight analysis. Also this plane and the mods were done in compliance with CAR 3 which can be described as WIDE OPEN compared to Part 23 which took over in 1958. The terms TSO and PMA did not exist under those rules...that is why planes were able to be sold for $3000 with a profit to the mfr back then. Parts were acquired from the lowest cost supplier, Ford, GM, Chrysler, Bendix, AC Delco....
