Prop Tip Coyote Blast?

I didn't want to post these pictures on Flying a Stinson With The Doors Off.

Sorry for the quality of the photos, but I think you will get the idea.. Many years ago, I was a Prop Repairman and this is one of the Propellers that came in the shop. (I saw numerous propellers similar to this)

I never asked what happened, I didn't feel it was necessary. I assumed the "incident" occurred somewhere in Eastern Montana.

I was actually able to fix the prop pictured. I had 4 1/2 hours in the repair, including cutting it back, straightening and adjusting the angles and regrinding it. It was a legal fix at 78 1/2 inches, and looked and functioned as new.

One can only assume a new synchronization box was installed, the lead angle was adjusted, or it was business as usual with the diminished arc.... :)

Rule number one. Barrel is not allowed ahead of the strut!

I bet the pilot and the shooter had some words right after the shot...

I can hear a coyote laughing...

Pretty impressive. Makes you wonder how many times he shot through the arc successfully.

Actually, barrel is always forward of the strut. My first "pre flight safety briefing" when I was flying as a gunner for a really crusty old contract pilot went something like this: "That's a wing strut. That's a propeller. You shoot either one, and you WILL die in the accident, cause I'll beat you to death before we crash! Now, get in and shut up."

Never liked flying with that guy, but fortunately didn't for long.
