Pulling the Trigger

on a '46 J3 w/ a C85 - hoping she will be home on Monday.

I'm as giddy as a school girl.

Re: Pulling the Trigger

Congrats! I think buying your own plane is one of the coolest feelings a person can have.

Looking forward to seeing some pics.

Humor may not make the world go around, but it certainly cheers up the process... :)
With clothing, the opposite of NOMEX is polypro (polypropylene cloth and fleece).

Re: Pulling the Trigger

An antique, that flies. How cool is that? As much as I like the freedom an experimental offers I do not get that coolness factor of a lovingly maintained and best of all great performing classic airplane. Hell my 65 hp. '46 T-Cart would easily keep up (in cruise anyway) with my 100 hp Rans S-7S. With 85 hp. if light that Cub should be a good performer. Yeah lets see some pictures!

Re: Pulling the Trigger

I posted a pic above... I have a little work to get her down to the 711lbs she was born with - but since I'm a lightweight myself at 140 sopping wet she will do nicely here in the high mountains. 300 hours on the engine and airframe since restoration, and 10 hours since top overhaul on 85hp Conty. A 10 year old rebuild in good shape. A good strong flier - not a hangar queen - just what I wanted. It only took a year.

First mods will be adding mixture control and seeing how difficult it is to get her up to 12,500 to clear Milner pass. She's not going to be just a patch pirate - I'm going to ride her hard - once I get the hang of the whole hand-propping and heel brakes and sitting in the back. Then I need to add a wing tank and need to re-index the prop as its set 1 bolt off which puts it up 15 degrees higher than I like for flickin'. I can't decide how soon - but love the looks/feel of the 29" Airstreaks and since I can fly off grass - I'll probably do that soon.

I've dubbed her "The Crazy Daisy." Did I mention I was excited? I'm shittin' in high cotton!
