Magic Valley, Idaho salutes a QB Gone West

Lowell Reed 'Bill' Hansen
Lowell Reed "Bill" Hansen, age 89, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, in Twin Falls, Idaho.
He was born in Ogden, Utah, on Jan. 9, 1921, the son of Orion H. and Maurine Hansen. Reed was a medical transport pilot serving in the Pacific during World War II. He flew many dangerous missions and earned the rank of a Flying Sergeant. He remained in the Air National Guard because of his love of flying. He had the privilege of flying many state heads and VIPs all over the world.
He married the love of his life, Betty June Gutke, on Feb. 9, 1947. He was a loving husband and a devoted family man. Reed went to pharmacy school at Idaho State University and, throughout his life, worked as a pharmacist and was director of the Idaho State Board of Pharmacy. He was an outgoing, friendly man who had a passion for helping others. He always had a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face. He was a longtime member of the QBs (Quiet Birdmen), a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Twin Falls Monarch Lions Club, a Master Mason, a member of El Korah Shrine, and he served on the Southern Idaho Learning Center Board for 14 years.
Surviving Reed is his loving wife, Betty Hansen of Twin Falls; son, Reed (Toni) Hansen of Pittsburgh, Pa.; daughters, Charlene (Todd) Burt of Boise and Jeri Hansen of Seattle, Wash. Also surviving are three granddaughters, Lindsay, Ashley and Erin Burt.
A memorial service for Bill will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Road in Twin Falls, with Mike Parke officiating. Fellowship and refreshments will follow the services at the funeral home. Interment will be held at 10 a.m. before the service Saturday at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
