Quick extended baggage question

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Quick extended baggage question

Hey guys, I have a quick question for you all. When doing an extended baggage, do you have to put foam or carpet on the side panels right away? Or can that be done at a later time? I'm just wondering if there will be a bunch of extra resonation noise or any other problems?
Thanks

Re: Quick extended baggage question

None is required. I would bet there is almost no noticeable benefit of insulating that far back. Cessna didnt on the 185.

Re: Quick extended baggage question

I wouldn't worry about noise, but putting SOMETHING on those sidewalls to protect the skins from abrasion and/or denting is a good idea.

I used indoor /outdoor carpet attached with C77 contact cement on extended baggage walls -top and deck .Added like 2-3 lbs .but is noticeably quieter .

Don't know if I'd glue it on permanently-- maybe peel-n-stick Velcro?

I carry a couple loosely-rolled RidgeRest ensolite sleeping pads in mine. They serve the purpose of protecting the metal skins, but they can also be taken out for camping, emergency use, or just sitting on. Weight is one pound each.

This is a great idea DP. Thanks! I hate to glue anything permanent in as I'd like to do my whole interior in the next few years. The less glue I have to scrape off at that time the better.
Thanks again for all the knowledge!

Also, if you ever take a wilderness medicine course such as WFA, WFR or WEMT, you will come away with a whole new appreciation for ensolite pads in an emergency situation.

Re: Quick extended baggage question

Good to know DP. I plan on taking a good wilderness course soon. I've always had my first aid for work, and I can see how ensolite pads could come in handy in an emergency situation.

Been planning to do side panels in my ext baggage. Dug out the material yesterday, and thought on it some-- maybe double-sided tape? Tape can still be a mess to clean off later, but I'm betting nowhere near as bad as daubed or brushed on adhesive.
