RAF alert: Nez-Clearwater National Forest proposed action

I'm sure all the RAF members received this email. I'm just posting to increase awareness for non-members.

The Nez-Clearwater National Forest (NP/CLW NF) has posted their “PROPOSED ACTION” document for public comment. The comment period ends Nov. 14, 2014.

The document can be found on the NP/CLW NF web site at: http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/nezperceclearwater/landmanagement/planning/?cid=stelprdb5447338

Please submit comments using one of the methods below (listed in order of preference for ease of processing and cost to the taxpayer in the content analysis process):

Web Form: https://cara.ecosystem-management.org/Public/CommentInput?Project=44089

If the sender does not receive this confirmation on the first email, it is the sender’s responsibility to ensure timely receipt by other means.

The Collaborative Mapping Tool Website: http://my.usgs.gov/ppgis/studio/launch/4290 –This tool allows you to submit geographic-specific comments.

When the scoping period ends, we will review and analyze the comments to identify issues and alternatives for analysis in the environmental impact statement (EIS). We expect to have a draft EIS for public review available in the spring of 2015.

I agreed, this needs a summary statement from the RAF. It's not totally clear if they foresee a problem or not. I expect that anytime there's a Forest Service or National Forest planning session they propose support to get pro-aviation verbiage into the plan.

Re: RAF alert: Nez-Clearwater National Forest proposed actio

I read through the whole thing and as far as I can tell, all 7 existing airstrips in the Nez-Clearwater will be maintained. They show up in several sections of the plan. None of these airstrips will be expanded and no new ones will be constructed, but the existing 7 will be maintained along with other transportation infrastructure in the NF. The plan references a separate management strategy document that will describe how the airstrips will be maintained and what drainage and other work projects will be pursued, but the strategy documents were not part of this plan. I submitted a comment supporting the continued care and maintenance of the 7 airstrips in the NF as vital assets for meeting the mission of the Forest Service and the goals of this particular forest.
