Rans S-7

I took a friend to Cauldwell, ID today to see a Sky Raider Frontier to see if he liked it. A bit small for his liking. I told him about the Rans S-7 and he would like to see one. We are just south of Oregon border in California. Does anybody on this site have one that is kind of close to us so he can take a looksee.

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

That's only a handful with Rans as the mfg. mine is technically a "welch Rans S-7S".

Go to ransclan.com and see the owners map.

When are you thinking Tim and how far can you travel?

I have a factory built S7LS, 2012 in Sacramento at Executive, (SAC). Im happy to show it anytime. Sort of coming up on the season where it's tough to know when I'll be in town but give a shout here and if Im around we'll set it up.

Re: Rans S-7

Does anyone have experience with the 80 horse jabbiro? Was looking at the S7 with a jab in Oregon.

Let me know pros & cons

Re: Rans S-7

The older 80HP Jab's had alot of issues. The newer 85HP 2200 was a better engine. The biggest issue they have on STOL airplanes is they are direct drive and your never going to get the thrust that a geared engine like the 912 is going to produce unless you pitch it strictly to climb. A 100HP Rotax powered one would most likely fly circles around an 80HP Jab engine. I just had a friend who pulled the Jab off his Kitfox and went back to a 582 because it just would not perform for him.

I'd be interested in what he finds that is bigger than the Frontier. The frontier is a fair amount larger than the S7.

I'm looking for something that is big enough for a jump seat and still have plenty of baggage space. So far all I have found is the Murphy Rebel and the Frontier.

Re: Rans S-7

I think that used to be the bargain, but now, for that type of plane, I would go early 182, carry more and have the trimmable tail, which is we all know is a pretty big deal. The 175 may fly a little lighter on the controls.?? I'm guessin fuel burn would be pretty close at same speed, but I'm bettin the 182 would do a better job of carryin a bigger load if ya wanted/needed to.???Plus you get that cool factor of flyin an old 182. :)
