These guys don't need energy management in their turns. There is more g but no load factor because excess engine thrust for climb makes up for the extra load factor in the turn. The only limit is the amount of g force the pilot can continue to be conscious with; and the radius increase with the extra speed.

Yeah, lots to be said for centerline thrust and lots of horsepower!

I think I did fly the older Sleds. Barrow Air had one of the doggiest I ever flew. Loaded heavy, the only thing that saved us was ground effect and miles and miles of tundra to wallow over.

What year did Cessna change the wing?

I think I did fly the older Sleds. Barrow Air had one of the doggiest I ever flew. Loaded heavy, the only thing that saved us was ground effect and miles and miles of tundra to wallow over.

Wow, that is surely being in the right place at the right time. The video brought back memories of fishing Rush Creek in 1974 when a couple of them came through the canyon. I damn near wet my pants with the excitement of seeing it.

Don't know when the 207s got the cuffed wing, but the 172s and 182s got them in 1973, FWIW.

Probably then too. I think the 207 came to be late 60's. The later year models I flew were nice flyers.

Reminds me of backpacking around Glacier peak area one year. Every hour Whidbey NAS would launch a couple of them around the mountain and down through the valley. Pretty impressive to watch. And sure fun to watch them fly below us. The rangers manning the lookout were getting a little tired of it after a couple months though.

We didn't get the nice flyby airshow, they were working.

Mountain biking in Telluride a few years ago when a couple of them flew the canyon below us. Really exciting.

Jim, nope, all the new Cub clones use the same wing and airfoil. Wings aren't patented....many of the airfoils were developed by NACA, the predecessor to NASA, so they're in the public domain. So, if a builder chooses to use one of those airfoils, then it becomes a question of how big, and I doubt you could patent that.
