really good people

We just finished our 40th running of the Alcan 200, the only snow machine race run on highways in North America!!!

The racers will have "AVERAGE" speeds of over 120 miles per hr. for the 160 mile round trip.

This years race was one of the worst and the best. We had a fatal accident this year after 40 years with nothing more serious than a few broken bones.

The best is that I was just told that nearly all of the winners turned right around and donated all their winnings to the family of the racer who was killed. Just over $17,000.00.

That is in my opinion one of the finest examples of true sportmanship that I have ever heard of.

Any of you who think you are fast on a sled come right on up here next year and show us what ya got, thier is a world of difference in hitting 150 MPH on a frozen lake for a few seconds and holding that kind of speed through all kinds of conditions for nearly an hour each way.

To fast for me. I have an uncle who has a place on Chilkat lake. He has some good stories of snow machining on open water.

Yes, a very good group of people, I've run that race for the last ten years, won it once crashed once, didn't go this year (new engine for the 170). My prayers go out to Jeff's family and friends.

Condolences to the family. As a racer I know the fellow racers will do that without even thinking about for a second. I sometimes run the world championship Jackson Hole snowmobile hill climb on my open mod sled and try to run a few grass drags but averaging 120 for a couple of hours on a street course lined with trees and god only knows what else takes rather large testicles  :o And that comes from a guy who flys an experimental powered by a pretty stout V-8. God speed to the racer.

Ben.

I have been donating the use of one of my small tour buses to pick up the racers who break down. Usually it is a fun ride, we have some refreshments and get to hear all the sad stories of what happened and why,

No body wants to ride the "short bus" but it can be sort of fun if you don't have a choice.

I am sitting here trying to figure out what would be scarier, 150 mph on the snow, or 150 on the water.

I kind of think snow would be scarier!

I've got a ton of time on a snow machine but no where near those speeds!
