Avweb.com wrote:The Red Baron Squadron, a team of four vintage Stearman biplanes that has flown formation aerobatics at air shows for 28 years, will fly no more (PDF), the team's sponsor, the Schwan Food Company, said this week. "The Red Baron Squadron has been an incredible asset to our company and we are very proud of its long, successful history," said Bill McCormack, executive vice president. "The retail grocery industry has experienced considerable change over the past few years. And, as a result, we have decided to refocus our Red Baron marketing program and to discontinue the Red Baron Squadron." The team flew at more than 2,000 airshows and gave rides to more than 80,000 passengers. They won the Art Scholl Award in 1995 and the Bill Barber Award in 1993.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
They were at Oshkosh this year. Very impressive!
I hope they can pick up another sponsor.

When I was still a student pilot I met them in the pattern as they were preparing for the Manitowoc Airshow . They were very courteous as I was barging around. They represented their sponsor well and I hope they find someone else too.

They've come to Seattle in the past to fly in the Seafair show. I have to believe that Red baron Pizza doesn't own the airplanes, they just sponsor the team. the stearman guys might be able to find another sponsor, so don't shoot them down just yet. They just might re-appear as the Ronald McDonald Squadron.....

In some of my worst nightmares, can I imagine the decor... and the flight suits. They could end the show by dropping their orange afro wigs simultaneously on the crowd.

"Oh, look... a dead bird"
-looks up- "Where?"
Looks like they owned the planes.
Schwan is also looking to sell the squadron’s assets, which includes seven airplanes, tooling, and ground support vehicles. "We’d be happy to dialogue with any company or people who would be interested. We hope to find a good use for them," he said.
