Red Creek Report

For those of you in AZ or visiting soon, I went into Red Creek today (04May2008) and thought I would post a condition report. First off, the bugs are out. If you plan on staying very long, take some DEET. Lots of pesky little flies buzzing around your face and trying to land on any bare skin. The condition of the strip is about the worst I've seen it in 4 or 5 years. Evidently the winter storms washed off a lot of the loose stuff and there are some rocks here and there. It's also not particularly level anymore. Somebody has marked a displaced threshold with an orange cone and a milk jug just past a particularly rough looking rocky patch. There is no particular problem here as there is still 1100' or so of strip left after that. No particular issue for the 180 with 8:00's but it is starting to get to the point where you might want to think hard about taking a nosewheel in there. I usually do a little maintaining when I go in but not today cuz the bugs are out. It was a nice enough day today (90ish or so) but the heat is right around the corner. That will take care of the bugs but it won't be very fun in there past about 10 AM or so. Oh, by the way, did I mention the bugs are out? :-)
