Red's Horse Ranch

Red's Horse Ranch, 6OR9

Anybody been into Red's this spring? Just wondered about the runway condition. Dry, wet, swamp like, 3' tall grass? I plan to be there late this week for a couple days. If anyone has any current information it would be appreciated.

Thanks for the update Wup. We were thinking of going in there on the way over to JC.

Bill,

Did you land or just make a pass. Wondered if the grass was as high as an elephants eye? How much runway is usable at Red's? Any mosquitoes yet?

Thanks,

Denis

Re: Red's Horse Ranch

We stayed at Minam Sat 11, water in the river was rising, coming over berm on south end of strip. Grass was high in spots 18" + but Shawn was mowing when we were there, some good whoop-d-do's on south end when taking off, you'll get a couple of good bounces, just keep it straight with the rudder and all is good. Had excellent steaks cooked by Shawn. We'll be back. As usual, the winds were picking up by 11 in the a.m.

When landing at Red's, I try to touch down, just past the barn to AVOID the horse trail. The horses have worn a groove across the runway, if you have small tires-could be a problem.

Re: Red's Horse Ranch

Take Wup's advice as it is wet in the middle section of the strip (trail crossing south for approx. 600'). Been in there 3-times in the last 3-weeks and is is fine on both ends, so plan on landing up river and touching down at the extreme north end of the strip adjacent to the pond. Most of you will be stopped by the trail crossing. And I've been taking off down river and starting at the far south end and then you have about 600-700' before you get to any standing water (windshield wipers advised if you get in any of the puddles). Be careful and enjoy.
